Rising Fascination In Active Transportation Recently, there has been a noticeable uptick in interest surrounding active transportation, which encompasses various human-powered modes like walking, biking, and scootering. This trend gained momentum, particularly during the pandemic, as many turned to cycling for recreation and commuting. Cities worldwide are responding by enhancing infrastructure, with the addition of more bike lanes being a key focus to promote micro-mobility. Notably, New York City's commitment to this cause is exemplified through plans to incorporate bike lanes on major bridges such as the Brooklyn and Queensboro bridges, aligning with the Vision Zero initiative aimed at improving road safety. While active transportation may not mirror the speed of powered vehicles, the U.S. Department of Transportation underscores the importance of accommodating such modes within transportation frameworks. This entails the development of complete streets that cater to diverse travel needs, integrating elements like bike lanes and sidewalks. The broader objective is to facilitate seamless journeys, acknowledging the varied preferences and mobility requirements of individuals. Government-led efforts underscore this shift, exemplified by initiatives such as the US Department of Transportation's $38 billion investment in the Complete Trip - ITS4US Deployment Program. These endeavors not only prioritize innovative solutions but also advocate for inclusivity, aiming to foster independent mobility for all. Additionally, legislative measures like the Moving Forward Act signal a heightened commitment to addressing pedestrian and cyclist safety, marking a significant stride towards a more sustainable and equitable transportation landscape. #ActiveTransportation #CompleteStreets #MicroMobility #VisionZero #SustainableTransport

As Mayor of the City of Pinole, I'm excited to announce our city's efforts to develop its first-ever Active Transportation Plan (ATP) — we're launching Walk and Roll Pinole! Over the next few months, we're collecting data from our residents, visitors, and other interested parties to identify opportunities to improve walking and bicycling in Pinole and support our regional and state climate goals in reducing vehicle miles travelled (VMT) and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The ATP represents an aspirational vision for walking and bicycling in Pinole, identifying potential financing for improvements while recognizing that limited funding and resources may require strategic phases of implementation over many years. Improving walkability and bike ability in Pinole is a critical way to reduce emissions, while improving the quality of life for our residents. Investing in public transit, affordable housing, and other infrastructure locally means investing in our economy, the health of our community, and the environment. Here's our clear goals as we create our town's first Active Transportation Plan: 1. Increase connectivity and accessibility by providing a cohesive network of facilities for people to walk, bicycle, and roll 2. Foster a safer environment for pedestrians and bicyclists 3. Reduce vehicle miles travelled by encouraging active transportation and multimodal travel 4. Strengthen our climate leadership regionally and statewide I encourage you to get involved to ensure this plan reflects what aspects of walking and biking is most important to Pinoleans. You can visit www.walkandrollpinole.com to learn more and share your ideas. Let's walk and roll, Pinole! #visitpinole

Shared e-scooters have been allowed to operate citywide starting last month. Understanding that there is a period of adjustment after expansion, the city is monitoring activity and will continue to adjust the program iteratively to address concerns as they arise. Here are some resources that may be useful: • Shared e-scooters are managed by Lime under their operational agreement with the City of Boulder. • At the January 5, 2023 regular meeting of Boulder City Council, city staff presented findings from an evaluation of the 1-year e-scooter pilot program. Staff received support from council to formalize shared e-scooters as part of the city’s Shared Micromobility Program along with shared e-bikes (BCycle) and work with Lime to expand shared e-scooter use citywide. • The most efficient way to address immediate concerns, such as improperly parked Lime e-scooters or other operational issues, is to contact Lime directly at the information below. Contact info is also posted on all e-scooters. o Phone: 1-888-LIME-345 o Email: support@li.me o Text: 1 (888)-546-3345 o In Lime app: Rapid Reporting Feature (for riders and non-riders) o On Twitter: Tag @_LimeAid • For more information on the city’s Shared Micromobility Program and related safety and education efforts, see the attached fact sheet and visit: https://lnkd.in/gUtpeHEY
