It was a busy, albeit somewhat rainy, week at #UKREiiF. It was great to reconnect with existing clients and to begin conversations with future partners. Hearing from various panellists including Lee Rowley MP, Melanie Leech CBE, Victoria Hills, Bob Weston and Rob Perrins on their solutions for delivering new homes given the existing economic and political environment re-enforced the need for speeding up the whole process and creating a 'get Britain building' agenda!

Western democracies are broken. Time to reform the Federation and its archaic Westminster systems, to create a modern, professional Executive Government that's more strongly accountable to a balanced, broadly representative Senate, along with better governance for delivering more efficient & effective public services. Then we can have a new, uniting Australia Day & flag, for a new Federation, new Republic, and A New Hope! https://lnkd.in/gu4UsJM (http://davidthorp. net/australia)

Chair at US Africa Collaborative, Inc. Wonderfully Human ~ Convener of Good Trouble ~ Intentional Instigator
The Port of Baltimore is critical to our nation's economy. In Maryland's economy, the Port of Baltimore generates nearly $3.3 billion in total personal income and supports 15,330 direct jobs and 139,180 jobs connected to Port work. In 2023, the Port ranked first in the nation in handling automobiles, light trucks, farm and construction machinery, as well as imported sugar and gypsum. The Port ranked second in the country for exporting coal. In 2022, the Port ranked sixth for importing coffee, 119,000 tons worth $609 million. Join us at the Pan African City Expo to hear Maryland Port Administration Executive Director Jonathan Daniels talk about the future of the Port of Baltimore and its relationship to the Port of Durban, with the second largest shipping container business in the entire continent of Africa. Maryland has an agreement with the Province of KwaZulu Natal, home of the Port of Durban. As the US is South Africa's largest trading partner, the Post of Baltimore is a critical part of maintaining that that strong relationship. Join us. https://lnkd.in/evW-cbcm
When you see the Key Bridge site up close, you understand the enormity of the challenge and the need to move forward urgently. Maryland is grateful for all the bipartisan Members of Congress that are putting partnership over partisanship to help us fully reopen our Port and rebuild the Bridge.

The financial demands of peacemaking often exceed the resources available to the public sector alone. Collaborating with the private sector is essential, not only to meet these financial needs but also to leverage the diverse capabilities and perspectives that private entities can bring to the table. Exciting reflections continue at #TheBerlinMoot.

The M23 rebel group, also known as the March 23 Movement, has fought against the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for several reasons, often citing a mix of political, ethnic, and security concerns. Here are some key reasons behind their actions: Ethnic Marginalization and Discrimination: The M23 primarily consists of ethnic Tutsis who claim that the DRC government has marginalized and discriminated against their community. They argue that they are not adequately represented in the political and military structures of the country and face systematic exclusion. Security and Protection: M23 members argue that their actions are necessary to protect Tutsi communities in eastern Congo from other militant groups and local militias, which they claim are backed by the DRC government. The region has been plagued by violence from various armed groups, making security a significant concern for many local populations. Broken Peace Agreements: The group's name, March 23 Movement, refers to a peace agreement signed on March 23, 2009, between the DRC government and the National Congress for the Defense of the People (CNDP), a Tutsi-led rebel group. M23 claims that the DRC government failed to honor the terms of this agreement, particularly those related to the integration of CNDP fighters into the Congolese army and the political administration. Political Representation and Autonomy: The M23 rebels have also called for greater political representation and autonomy for the regions they control. They argue that local governance should be in the hands of local leaders who understand the needs and concerns of the population, rather than being dictated by a distant central government. Resource Control: Eastern DRC is rich in natural resources, including minerals like gold, tin, and coltan. Control over these resources can provide significant financial benefits, and various armed groups, including M23, have been accused of exploiting these resources to fund their activities. Regional Tensions: The conflict in eastern DRC is influenced by regional dynamics, particularly the relationships between the DRC, Rwanda, and Uganda. M23 has been accused of receiving support from Rwanda, although both Rwanda and M23 deny this. These regional tensions add a layer of complexity to the conflict, with cross-border ethnic ties and geopolitical interests playing a significant role. These reasons reflect a combination of grievances related to governance, security, ethnicity, and economic interests. The situation in eastern DRC remains complex and volatile, with various armed groups and political actors vying for power and control
