I’ve heard it said that HR is a vocation, and this is something I 100% agree with. The HR/ People team get to do some amazing and rewarding things, like helping people develop their careers, contributing to culture change, increasing morale, engagement, productivity, fairness, inclusion, and diversity. We make recruitment better, and assist businesses to reach their strategic goals through their biggest asset - people. Yet, despite all this, as we all know, HR also has to do some tough and difficult tasks, and when we do, we make sure that these are done fairly, legally, and with compassion. However, I’m sure that I speak for many, many HR/People specialists when I say that we’re often not given the recognition we deserve. HR is a skill and a specialism, but it’s one that is extremely subject to the Dunning Kruger effect. I’ve heard countless HR people say that managers think they know better than HR in HR matters. I myself have heard all the lines “we did it like this in my last company”, “I asked my neighbour who’s a lawyer”, “I Googled it”, etc. I’ve been lucky to work with some amazing CEOs who really understand the importance and significance that having HR brings to the business. But I’d like to ask for everyone who’s not in HR, that you take time to give your HR people the respect that they deserve. They are specialists, and they’re doing a difficult and often thankless job. As a HR professional I can honestly say that we really appreciate it. #hr #humanresources #people #ilovehr
