One year interning in the oil and gas industry and here are the top 3 lessons I have learnt in the past year... 1. Always be ready to pivot: Upon getting this role, I was really confused as to how this made sense for my career trajectory seeing that I am building a career in brand strategy & business development but over the past year I have learnt so many new soft & hard skills I never thought were necessary but have now proven to be game changers. It might not make sense at first, but trust that there is a bigger picture at play. 2. Shine your light: Even though I worked as a tender officer, I spotted a gap in my company where I have the expertise to fill in, made a problem solving presentation for my boss and he loved it. That singular action elevated my perceived value and got me involved in more top level discussions at my work place. 3. Young people are missing in action; maybe it's the rise of the creative economy or the tech space but I was always the youngest in the room in all the oil & gas spaces I found myself in. But it opened my eyes. This wasn’t just a job; it was a crash course in potential, a raw look at the guts of a young and booming industry. I hustled through a number of projects, and that grind paid off—I snagged an electrical apprenticeship where I was thrown in with some real-deal tradesmen. These were the kind of folks who wear their work like a badge of honor. That was the hook for me. I was lucky that through that electrical apprenticeship I was able to gain experience in ICI work and renewables, wind and solar. This path is more than a career—it’s where my drive for a greener world ignited. That includes my passion for other carbon reducing tech like EVs. Seeing the tangible impact we are making on communities, on the planet, that was the kicker. I’m in this industry because it’s tough as nails, it’s changing the face of the globe, and let’s be real—it’s where the future’s at. We’re seeing cutting-edge innovation, stretching the limits of what we can do with energy. I’m here to make damn sure I’m part of that change. Clean, accessible, sustainable energy—it’s not just a goal; it’s the mission. And I’m all in, building a team, leading project by project, making that difference.

When we talk about a #Planforhousing of course we mean more homes to solve the housing crisis. But it's not JUST homes that housing builds. Housing builds skills, it builds opportunities and it builds communities. This is a great example of local people in the North West who've embarked on an apprenticeship and now turned that into a career, joining 1,500 staff who do finance, trades, lettings, housing, construction, communications, administration, HR, learning and skills, employability advice, welfare support, marketing, learning....a plan for housing is a plan for so many sectors.

So l finally got to see an Xmas Tree... l love to tell stories, so a quick one👇 Earlier on while starting out with my internship experience, I was asked different questions from time to time most of which l didn't know. In this particular occasion I was asked what an Xmas tree was and fortunately or should I say unfortunately for me, it was during the christmas season and l went on to start saying what the literal meaning of the Xmas tree l know was not knowing it has a meaning in the oil and gas industry. We laughed hard that day in the office and l was helplessly laughing at myself too. I was later opportune to visit one of TotalEnergies Facility and l got to see an Xmas tree, many of them! I also got to know that it is a vital piece of equipment responsible for controlling the flow of oil and gas from a well. It's essentially an assembly of valves arranged in a vertical manner, somewhat resembling a Christmas tree as seen on the picture below. The Christmas tree allow operators to precisely control the flow rate of oil and gas coming out of the well. This is crucial for optimizing production, preventing overpressure, etcetera. Christmas trees also incorporate various safety features, including shut-down valves and pressure relief valves, to prevent accidents and to protect personnel and equipment on site. Do you know the Xmas tree as it relates to the Oil and gas industry? What are the names of some of the valves on the Xmas tree? The other picture in the comments session is another picture of my funny learning moments. I was asked to draw a separator and l was told that what l drew looked like someone's head.😂 Grateful to my colleagues and professionals who always helped my life with explanations - 'They dey explain Tire'.😅 Happy to have seen separators on site too. Seeing myself dressed in my Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)gives me a sense of fulfillment of my childhood dreams of wanting to be an engineer, indeed everything starts from imagination and every dreams are valid. ⬜✅ And it keeps getting better! #growth #oilandgas #internshipexperience #datahumanist #progress #energy
