For decades, I've been part of groups like the top photo (Empowered CMO Network) because reality looks more like the bottom photo (Rocky Mountain AI Interest Group) in my work. It started when I was 15 and attended a Girls in Engineering program that opened my eyes and inspired me to become an electrical engineer.
Since then, I've been passionate about getting involved with organizations that lift up women - the Empowered CMO Network connecting and empowering women CMO voices, Women in AI encouraging us to fearlessly learn, participate, and inspire in the world of transformative AI, and trailblazing groups like Girls in STEM, Women in Engineering, Cloud Girls, Women in Revenue, Rocky Mountain AI Interest Group (RMAIIG)-AI Women, Deloitte's Board-Ready Women Program, Athena Alliance, and FirstBoard.io®. The list goes on and on.
At home, I beam with pride as my high school daughter recently qualified for DECA nationals in the sports and entertainment marketing category. DECA develops the next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs. She's hinted at wanting to pursue engineering in college as well.
My passion for inspiring and elevating women comes from my own challenging journey, deep gratitude for those who supported me, and a driving purpose to pay that mentorship forward by creating more opportunity for my daughter and the next generation.
The work is often draining, and I get it - there are days I wonder how we keep going when the UN says gender equality is still 286 years away at our current pace. I understand why voices like Samantha Young feel unable to celebrate until we see faster and more meaningful change, https://lnkd.in/evDc8wPr
Like many, I'm committed to persevering, especially in AI, because perseverance is the only way we'll get the progress we need. With AI set to dramatically change the world, making sure women have an equal voice in guiding this technology is one of the most important goals we face. AI's growth will touch every part of society which makes amplifying women's perspectives and roles absolutely vital to ensure that it benefits, not harms, humanity.
So we march on this International Women's Day and beyond, step-by-step, making progress where we can. It's the only way forward.
