Nearly 6 months into my tenure at FedEx Express Australia and it’s amazing to already see the progress working alongside many businesses to help achieve their goals. Have met many great people in countless businesses and I think it’s worth pointing out what I have seen to be three crucial aspects that make for a great account executive , especially with FedEx 😂 1. Be dependable Speaking with customers, they need to know that there is someone who will return their calls, hear their concerns and be with them as they navigate the world of freight. Seems obvious, but this aspect gets lost amongst the hustle and is always something I strive to hang my hat on. Be dependable. 🎩 2. Be real A good friend and a good partner tells it like it is. Kind candour is respected and works amazing well, especially when looking to build a relationship based on trust (Cheers Gary Vaynerchuk for the inspo). Eliminate the “fluff” and be real 3. Be a part of their business A good account executive will always be a critical aspect of a business’ operations. You need to actively be a part of their journey, their highs and lows and their exciting growth. They need to know that you’re more excited for their future than they are, that you’re willing to fight for their interests and help them realise their goals. Do this well, and you’re wel and truly part of the business Obviously there is a plethora of other aspects to making a good account executive or business partner, but these are what I’m finding to be pretty important. 👂 Sound off 👂 If you wish to add your perspective, from either side, as to what aspects make for a good account executive, let me hear it. Earlier this month, I had the honor of being promoted to Chief Sales Officer at World Emblem™. This achievement marks the culmination of a journey that commenced two decades ago. Looking back, I vividly recall my humble beginnings as an eager Account Executive fresh out of school. At that time, I found myself at the bottom rung of the ladder, hustling tirelessly every day, knocking on doors, and driven solely by an unwavering work ethic. Over the years, that work ethic has evolved into more than just a habit; it has become a guiding principle that shapes every aspect of my life: 🌅 Early mornings and late nights are now the norm. 🏖 Weekends and vacations often blend seamlessly into workdays (much to my wife's chagrin, though her patience is commendable). 🎯 Setting ambitious goals and pursuing them relentlessly has become second nature. 🔍 Every obstacle and setback is viewed as an opportunity for personal and professional growth. 💡 And above all, delivering value is not just a priority but a non-negotiable commitment. However, amidst all these lessons learned, the most invaluable one has been the recognition of the significance of cultivating strong internal relationships alongside external ones. Team bonding with the Bec + Bridge Armadale team! I’ve now been assistant manager at the B+B Armadale store for 4 months and have been truly loving the challenge that comes with managing people and running a store. Here’s what I’ve learnt so far: ✨Customer service is EVERYTHING. Invest in your customer and their experience. The sales will follow. ✨ All that really matters is the customer. Without them, you don’t have a job. ✨ Learn about your team and what motivates them. For us, setting daily goals and getting everyone each day on board and excited to be at work has been key. ✨ Give your team the tools to succeed. They don’t know what they don’t know. It’s your job as a manager to identify gaps and provide them with training and feedback so they can excel at their job. ✨ Ask for feedback. From those above and below you - there’s always ways you can improve and listening to your team makes them feel supported and overall happier to be at work. ✨ Don’t cut corners when it comes to operations. Getting store jobs done correctly prevents future stress - thanks Madeleine Bonnici for teaching me your amazing operations skills! How did you know you fell in love with logistics? For me, it was dreading Friday. It was the only job I’ve ever had where I was sad when it was Friday. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have kids so my viewpoint is different. I often looked forward to Friday in other sales roles, my love for those roles was mainly because of the money/ high of the sale. Logistics was different, I woke up everyday excited and probably obsessive over it looking back. High performance culture is... Everyone in sales, is also in services delivery. Everyone services delivery, is also in sales. Everyone in G&A - including the whole Executive team - is in both. The whole organization is obsessively aiming to win the hearts and minds of customer, driving impact with them and to them, with partners - while also being of services to one another, being there for each other, supporting each other - making the work itself engaging, exciting, and fun - celebrating wins, no matter how small, learning from losses, no matter who's fault.
