🌟 Celebrating 60 Years of Impact: The Legacy of Community Health Centers As I reflect on the remarkable journey of Community Health Centers over the past six decades, I'm reminded of their profound impact on the American healthcare ecosystem. Born out of the Civil Rights Movement and the War on Poverty, these centers were founded with a revolutionary idea: healthcare should be accessible to all, regardless of one's socio-economic status. From their humble beginnings in Mount Bayou, Mississippi, and Boston, Massachusetts, Community Health Centers have grown into the nation's largest and most successful primary care network, serving over 31 million individuals across the country. Their unwavering commitment to health equity and community empowerment has improved countless lives and reshaped our healthcare approach. These centers exemplify the power of community collaboration, bringing together healthcare professionals, community leaders, and government support to create a holistic healthcare ecosystem. They offer a wide array of services, from primary care to behavioral health, ensuring comprehensive care that extends beyond the traditional healthcare setting. As innovators and problem solvers, Community Health Centers have been at the forefront of addressing America's most pressing public health challenges, including natural disasters and pandemics. Their role in reducing health disparities, preventing illness, and addressing social determinants of health like nutrition, mental health, and homelessness is unparalleled. As we look to the future, it's important to advocate for long-term funding so that Community Health Centers can continue to advance their mission of providing quality, accessible healthcare to all. National Public Health Week-Day 1 "Civic Engagement" Today is the first day of National Public Health Week which is crucial week as it raises awareness about public health issues and encourages individuals to take action to improve the health of their communities. Each day is a different topic, and today's topic is "Civic Engagement". Civic engagement plays a vital role in Public Health by empowering citizens to advocate for policies and initiatives that promote public health, such as access to healthcare, clean air and water, healthy food options, and disease prevention measures. Together, they foster a culture of wellness and social responsibility, ultimately leading to healthier and more resilient societies. Local civic engagement allows residents to voice their concerns and influence local policies and decision-making processes. This can lead to the implementation of initiatives that address community needs, such as improving infrastructure, enhancing public safety measures, and promoting environmental sustainability. By working together, community members can identify innovative approaches to tackle issues like homelessness, education disparities, and economic inequality Overall, civil engagement at the local level is essential for building resilient, inclusive, and thriving communities where every voice is heard and valued. #nationalpublichealthweek #publichealth #civilengagement #blackmeninpublichealth #community #advocacy

professionalization of CHW is very important
"We're here to raise political will around the need to professionalize community health workers. To make sure that #proCHWs are salaried, supplied, skilled, and supervised, and that there is financial support for CHW programs." -Last Mile Health's James Nardella for The Audacious Project at #UNGA78: https://bit.ly/3t0Ei68

Thank you GA Watch. Storytelling is a HUGE component of the communities in which we live and serve. It is the ability to see through the eyes of others and tell the stories that create emotions and promote and initiate change. #CHW#GACHW#IAmACHW#RCHWN#NACHW#SECHW#everydaychw#CommunityVoices
Meet Amber Mullen! Her roots trace back to Arlington, Virginia. Currently, she serves as Chair of the GA Community Health Network Steering Committee. She has over 15 years of community health work experience. Her personal background and lived experience led her to want to become a beacon of change for others in her community. Amber's perspective on being a Community Health Worker encapsulates the essence of her mission. To her, being a CHW is being a trusted advocate and a storyteller. She has a unique ability to uncover the stories that lie within the heart of communities allowing her to understand their authentic needs. These stories give a unique understanding of the bigger picture of community needs by depoliticizing and drawing attention to those who are directly affected. Amber's belief is that true change is born from the emotional connections she forges, and her advocacy acts as the catalyst for true transformation. #CHW #GACHW #CommunityVoices

In this "Ask and Answer" session, a health center wanted to know if they could use grant funding to purchase a van for health services and other community health outreach efforts. The vehicle would travel to hard-to-reach communities, such as areas that are very rural, more than 30 miles from the health center, and to districts with lower primary care use. Could they get a grant for this purpose? Find out our answer and next steps at https://lnkd.in/eKmSQUey. And then please let me know what you think in the comments
