Due to your brain's natural negativity bias, it is easy for most of us to take for granted the good things in our lives and overfocus on what is not working. This can make your life even more miserable. One of the best predictors of wellbeing is gratitude because it forces your brain to remember what is good. Pause scrolling. Take a few deep breaths and ask yourself, what is going right with my life? What are some of the positive experiences that I have had? And remember, don't go for the big ones necessarily. It could be that you are grateful for a good night's sleep or a nice cup of coffee or sunlight. Sometimes, the small things have the biggest impact. #gratitude #mentalhealth #myafyaafrica

At any point things can turn on a dime… These past couple of weeks have reminded me of this. One minute we can be in normal life. With the usual (sometimes barely noticed) joys. The usual insecurities. The usual challenges. And then, without much warning, things can change. The earth can buckle beneath you, and you find yourself standing on the precipice of fear and change and facing things being irrevocably different. In daily life, we get caught up in the minutiae of things. Forgetting what is most important to us. Health. Connection. Loved ones. Fulfilment. We can forget to be grateful for all that we have. We can get swallowed up in our over critical and controlling minds. We can embody our discomforts rather than our joys. But we never know when things will change… And ultimately, they always do. So, make it a priority to take great care of yourself. Look after your health and wellbeing. Do what it takes to invest in your mind and body. Make it a priority to connect and have quality time and shared experiences with those you love. Do what brings you joy and makes your heart sing. Do this as much as you possibly can! Soak it all in.
