Throughout my career, I've never received a farewell email that truly celebrates a departing colleague's achievements and the impact they've had on our company's growth. 🔔 Isn't it time we changed that narrative? Imagine a "Departing Wisdom" session where the individual leaving the company generously shares their victories, hard-earned lessons, and invaluable insights from their journey with us. It's about turning these farewells into powerful learning experiences for everyone involved. This would also instill a sense of gratitude and fulfilment in the individual for acknowledging his contribution! Give me your thoughts on this as a practical idea to foster employee appreciation. “Implementing a six-week job rotation program for new hires in all corporations would allow them to experience and understand the various levels of work involved in the organization. This approach could foster a greater appreciation for the challenges faced at lower levels, enhance interdepartmental communication, and develop a well-rounded skill set among employees. By gaining firsthand experience in different roles, new hires could better grasp the company’s operations, leading to improved teamwork and potentially more innovative problem-solving. Additionally, this program could help identify the strengths and interests of new employees, guiding them to roles where they can contribute most effectively.”

A year ago, I embarked on a new adventure with Compass Group USA, moving from operations to HR, with a focus on learning, talent and corporate HR. In many ways, it’s hard to believe a full year has gone by and in others, I find myself thinking has it really only been a year? In my 10 years with Compass, I’ve been able to experience multiple sectors of the business, spend time on more than 70 campuses, connect with hundreds of colleagues, build relationships with leaders across the globe and connect teams and people to resources, ideas and projects to support our business. I’m certain that 2013 me could not have predicted my journey and yet it feels as though I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be. I’ve learned so much this last year and I’m incredibly grateful to work with the best team in the organization, who challenge me in all the best ways. I still remember that nervous, anxious, excited feeling as I walked into the office last year and while I might be less anxious and nervous, I’m as excited as ever about what we are building and how we are impacting the experience for our people across the organization. I’m also thankful that my career with Compass not only started with a call from Cindy Noble but has led me to being part of her team in this role. 🌟 Reflecting on Memorable Moments: From "The Office" to My Training Ship Experience 🚢 Recently, I had an epiphany after binge-watching the TV show "The Office." It struck me that even the seemingly mundane aspects of life can hold a certain charm. The time I spent watching the show coincided with the conclusion of my training ship experience at ADM, and it felt surreal. Just as the characters at Dunder Mifflin found beauty in their everyday office life, I too realized that my training ship journey had its moments of brilliance. At first, I may not have been too thrilled about my training ship placement, much like some of the characters in "The Office" disliked their workplace. However, over time, I started collecting a treasure trove of memorable moments and cherished memories. The camaraderie with my colleagues, the invaluable skills I acquired, and the challenges I overcame all contributed to a rich tapestry of experiences. It's remarkable how a place that might not have seemed perfect initially can become incredibly difficult to leave. Just as the employees of Dunder Mifflin formed deep connections and bonds over time, my time at ADM transformed into an unforgettable chapter of my life.
