Great message. For anyone working in health or care, a reminder: 👇 "How does mental capacity affect the right to register to vote? A lack of mental capacity is not a legal incapacity to vote. Persons who meet the other registration qualifications are eligible for registration regardless of their mental capacity. Voting rights While electors with any level or no level of mental capacity may be registered to vote, the decision as to whether and how to vote at an election must be made by the elector themselves and not by any other person on their behalf. Those who care for or who otherwise make decisions on behalf of a person may not make decisions on voting" https://lnkd.in/ecfRqHFB #PromoteTheVote #HumanRights #SocialCare #Health #Care #SocialWork

A general election allows people in every part of the UK to choose their MP. This person will represent a local area (constituency) in the House of Commons for up to five years. There is a choice of several candidates in each constituency. Some will be the local candidates for national political parties. The candidate that receives the most votes becomes their MP. By voting, you can support a candidate who will represent your views in parliament and influence the policy issues you care about. An election is also your chance to speak out if you have a complaint about how the country is being run. Remember, voting is not the only way to participate but it’s the quickest and easiest way! Voting is important not only because it is a civic duty but because it could change the world for the better. Did you vote yet? Every vote counts! #election2024

The general election is this Thursday, here are some things that may be useful to know: - Before you go to vote, make sure you have a photo ID that you can show to the staff. If you’re unsure what ID they will accept, visit this website: https://buff.ly/40zR1ba - You will be asked your name and address by the staff at your local polling station. If you’re not sure where your polling station is, it will be on the poll card sent to you through the post or you can visit this website and enter your postcode to find out: https://buff.ly/2I5d6Yr - You’ll be given a ballot paper containing a list of the people, parties or options you can vote for. If you’re struggling to decide who to vote for, this website will give you a list of questions and then let you know which party is more in line with what you want from your government: https://buff.ly/377RLd9 #GeneralElection2024 #YourVoteMatters
