Redesigning problems using a human-centred approach. Instructional Designer & eLearning Developer. | Founding Director of Belvista Studios
How to convince your boss to apply a human-centred approach to the training solution you are developing. (Script) 💬 If they say: “I don’t know if we have time to undertake all the HCD activities. The business wants this solution ASAP.” You say: “I hear you and I appreciate our time pressures. What I’ve done is look at the scope and schedule of the project. I’ve selected appropriate HCD activities that will have a great impact on the goal we’re trying to achieve and still allow us to meet the project deadline. There are consequences if we don’t complete some HCD activities. We may not meet our project goal, meaning our team’s time was wasted, as well as company money wasted and poorly invested. I want you to have this information so you can make an informed decision that is best for our organisation.” Objections like this are common for internal and external stakeholders. Want to learn how to influence stakeholders better and learn scripts like this? 🤩 Join our 8 week human-centred design training for instructional designers and learning and development professionals. Do you know what instructional design means? "The deliberate arrangement of learning conditions to promote the achievement of some intended goal (Driscoll, 2000)." To be honest with you all, I've been working in the industry for a few years and in collaboration with HR consultants in Brazil, and I've never heard the word "instructional design". Even as a teacher, I had never heard anything similar. Based on the definition, I know that many HR and education professionals are working with this idea in their workplaces. I also had the opportunity to design programs in my previous jobs. However, after this course, which is part of my master’s program, I was able to see my personal gaps. I would like to share my fresh knowledge with everyone who might be interested in the subject. Here you can find my personal work based on the book Instructional Design by Patricia L. Smith and Tillman J. Ragan: https://lnkd.in/gq9A3rkx

Question: Every week I talk to instructional designers who say they're sick of making e-learning programs that exist just to check a box. Training that has little real-world impact. These instructional designers 🧠 are clever, and 💖 they care. So why does this type of training keep getting made? What work conditions or project constraints lead to this? I'd love to hear your thoughts. 👇

Redesigning problems using a human-centred approach. Instructional Designer & eLearning Developer. | Founding Director of Belvista Studios
A client came to us as their induction wasn’t having the impact they wanted. They had a face-to-face induction program that was inconsistent and not delivered in a cost-effective way. We partnered with the client and adopted a human-centred design approach to: 🎯 Identify business goals 💻 Hold workshops 😀 Interview stakeholders 👀 Observe the tasks in action ✍️ Get to know what needed to be trained From this, we decided on an online induction program with a new starter checklist resource. This is what some of the employees had to say after completing the new program: “I liked that I had control. I could spend time on information that was important to me and I could research it further through the resources provided. The face to face had a schedule to stick to.” “I got the information that was relevant to me in my first week and it answered questions that I had early on, rather than having to wait for the face to face to be scheduled.” Want to create solutions like this? Our 8 week advanced instructional design training for Instructional designers is open for enrolment (closes 16th October 9AM AEST). Enrol now (we dare you): https://buff.ly/45yOzEM 💙💜 #advancedinstructionaldesigntraining #instructionaldesign #learningexperiencedesign #humancentreddesign #humancentereddesign

Transforming Learning & Development with 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐧 eLearning Courses + Creative Solutions | Instructional Design Consultant | Ideator💡
Have you ever juggled too many hats? In L&D, it’s easy to take on ALL THE THINGS. Especially when you're the only person in your department. Some of the hats that we wear: ▪️ Instructional Designer ▪️ Project Manager ▪️ Strategy ▪️ LMS Admin ▪️ Developer ▪️ Facilitator ▪️ Illustrator ▪️ Voiceover Artist ▪️ Quality Assurance reviewer Now, let's talk delegation, or the art of hat-sharing. Imagine that you're surrounded by an array of hats, each representing a different task or responsibility. Some hats fit you perfectly, while others...not so much. By passing along a fedora of facilitation or a beret of blended learning to someone whose head it fits better, you not only lighten your own load but also empower others to shine in roles they're suited for. In your opinion, what type of work is worth delegating?

I hear some instructional designers say their goal is to improve “Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities…” …actually, that’s technically incorrect. It’s our role to change “Knowledge, Skills, and **Attitudes**” To be clear, **Abilities are intrinsic** and native to the Performer. Some people do not have the “ability” needed as a baseline for performance improvement. So training someone that has zero ability is likely going to be a fruitless endeavor. Instead we should say it is our goal to change “Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes” Knowing this informs when and where a training intervention is likely to succeed❣️🙏😇
