Put Yourself in the Right Spots Some Context: Almost two years ago, we talked to Alec Scott at the DP World Tour about his role as a sales coordinator. He has since moved internally to a new position as sustainability project manager. During our discussion about the tour, we touched on the "event runners," typically students working summer jobs. They used to frequently seek Chris's advice on networking, as Chris was actively networking himself at the tour. Chris's response was: "You're in the best possible spot." Why? For exame these event runners were at a "Rolex Series" event where major players like B&W, Rolex, CSM Sport & Entertainment, prominent agents, marketing agencies, and more were present. They had access to all of them. All they had to do was.. Introduce themselves and start a conversation. And all it takes is one person to connect with you, relate to you, or simply like you enough to remember you and maybe even offer assistance. The advice here is to position yourself in the best possible spot to reach the people you want to talk to or even become. When did you get started with LMG?🙂 I’ve been with LMG for nearly two years, and it’s been the most eye-opening experience of my professional life. I’d been on the supplier side for many years, so discovering the other side and helping our members to nurture and grow their businesses has been amazing.   2. What’s a valuable lesson you’ve learned along the way?🤔 Stay focused on what you can control and don’t get bogged down in the things you have no control over.   3. What are you looking forward to it 2024?🤝🏼 I’m excited about opening and setting up new stores for our members and bringing new members across to LMG.   4. How do you approach the challenging aspects of your job?💪🏼 Well, if you didn’t have challenges then you wouldn’t be working! So I try to always see them as opportunities. And with LMG’s really innovative technology and spirit of #bettertogether, you can meet any challenge.   5. What’s the best advice you’d give someone starting out?🧠 I’d encourage them to work closely with their colleagues, take on ideas, be open to change, and learn to harness constructive criticism. And I always remember advice from the first boss I had when I started working at 16 – he told me to imagine your brain has an empty sponge inside it and to make sure you soak up all the good things around you to help further your career.   6. Where do you find inspiration? 👩👦👦 Always from my beautiful wife and two amazing boys. And from seeing the satisfaction on members’ faces when I’ve managed to influence how they do business in a positive way. That always makes your efforts feel worthwhile.   7. And finally, what’s your go-to end of week drink and how do you like to enjoy it?🥃 If it’s in a can, it has to be a James Squire Ginger Beer. Otherwise, I’ll go for one of the best Australian whiskeys on the market like the Morris Rutherglen Signature single malt whiskey. As the New Year unfolds, I find myself in a reflective state, and in awe at the incredible journey that a hospitality career has brought me. 🎉 It's a testament to the unpredictability of life and the power of seizing opportunities with an open heart and mind. When I was a Sophomore in college, I embarked on this journey in the world of hospitality with little expectations. It was just a job to help save money. Little did I know that every smile shared, every guest I met (positive, or gloomy) and every connection made would play a pivotal role in shaping my professional trajectory. The hospitality industry has been my steadfast companion, offering me a platform to learn, grow, and contribute in ways I never anticipated. The dynamic nature of this field has honed my adaptability, problem-solving skills, and instilled in me a genuine passion for creating memorable experiences for others. As I reflect on this journey, I am filled with gratitude for the mentors, colleagues, and friends who have been a source of inspiration and support. Their guidance has been invaluable, and has helped me navigate the twists and turns of this exciting industry. Today, I stand at a juncture where the lessons learned, the challenges overcome, and the relationships built have paved the way for new opportunities and horizons. I'm extremely thankful and excited to be at IDeaS Revenue Solutions. Helping give back to the hospitality industry after it gave so much to me. The tour is coming! 🚵 Despite the minor inconvenience of ALL the roads being closed, I’m super excited to see le de Tour France coming here to Morzine tomorrow! Even if you don’t follow the Tour, but you’ve checked out the Unchained series on Netflix (if you haven’t, you really should!) then you’ll probably agree with me that these superhumans offer a few lessons for all of us working in #recruitment and #talentacquisition 💡 1. Strategic Sourcing: Planning routes, analysing competitors. To acquire talent you need to map out your sourcing strategies, identify target talent and understand the competition. 2. Collaborative Hiring: Cycling is a team sport and even for the most independent of recruiters, you still need close collaboration from your team. The members could be your colleagues, hiring managers, supplier or client (depending on which side you work) and the more unified the team, the smoother the candidate experience and chances of success. 3. Endurance and Resilience: OK so we are not falling off bikes or getting punctures, but we do have blockers and setbacks. Offers rejected, requirements changing to name a couple. They key is to stay focused and keep doing the basics and trust in your process. 4. Continuous Improvement: Teams in the Tour de France review the day’s racing. Always striving to improve. Retrospectives in recruiting, evaluating what has or hasn’t worked and refining processes.
