It's cliche, but believing in your own abilities can be the way you get your next promotion ⭐ Senior Designer, Jess Aston shares that it's not about pitting ourselves against others, but knowing what we bring to the table as individuals that makes us stand out: "I think that often we put ourselves up against our colleagues a lot, but actually we all have our own strengths and we all come from different backgrounds and different points of view." #WomenInTech #DigitalProduct #ProductDesign

Leveling up our game: Why a soccer table in the office means more than just playtime. 🏓💼 At our office, it's not just about desks and computers – we've got a soccer table too. And trust us, there's method to the madness! While some might see it as mere fun, we believe it's a game-changer in more ways than one. Here are three reasons why having a soccer table in the office is a genius move: 🤝 Teamwork & Unity: Table soccer brings colleagues together in a laid-back environment, fostering camaraderie and boosting collaboration. It's where bonds are built and teams are strengthened. 🎨 Stress Relief & Creativity Boost: A quick break at the soccer table can work wonders, clearing minds and sparking fresh ideas. Research proves that short breaks enhance productivity – so let's kick some stress to the curb! 💼 Cultivating Office Culture: Laughter and relaxation are essential in any workspace. It's with a mix of sorrow and a raised eyebrow that we bid farewell to InVision, a once-pioneering force in the digital design realm. As you close your doors, we can't help but reflect – with a tinge of irony – on the twists and turns of the tech world. Invision, you showed us all how to start a revolution... and then seemingly decided to sit back and watch it pass by. As the digital design industry leapt forward, embracing new trends and technologies, you seemed more content to reminisce about the good old days rather than create new ones. Your journey has been a fascinating lesson in the importance of continuous innovation. You've become a cautionary tale that even the brightest stars must keep moving or risk fading away. It's almost poetic, in a #SiliconValley, #TechSavvy sort of way. As you transition to whatever comes next, remember this: staying still is the fastest way of moving backwards in a rapidly changing world. We'll miss your once-cutting-edge platform, but we're also excited to see what lessons you'll take into your next chapter – if there is one. So, here's to Invision – may your story be a reminder to us all that in the tech world, you either innovate or become a well-designed, user-friendly footnote in digital history. With a wink and a nod,

Products - See differently 👁️👁️ For those lucky enough to be in London over the summer months, look out for Morph. In the 80s, I remember watching Hart attack with Tony Hart and morph, a cute clay character that would animate using actions to communicate and get up to mischief. I went morph spotting recently, Have you been morph spotting? I came across braille morph (first photo). It reminded me about the importance of products being accessible and inclusive to communities. Accessibility is a critical indicator of sustainability. Remember that if you can solve for accessibility, it will make your product: 👩⚖️Legally compliant - yes, in many countries, it’s a legal requirement, and to do business, you need to have considered accessibility, including WCAG, ADA and EN 301 549. 📍Inclusive user experience - allows you to reach a broader audience and ensure a more positive impact on society. 💷📈Business sense - As you reduce the complexity through accessible design. Your flows, interaction design, and UI become more intuitive, and you see less drop-off. This reduces the cognitive drag of your product. Allowing customers to convert, reach their goals and drive a positive customer experience and higher ROI. So ask yourself how accessible your product is and what you are doing about it 🤷🏽♂️ Back to Morph. Morph’s Epic Art Adventure in London is the UK’s first step-free art trail, hosted by Whizz Kidz, the UK’s leading charity for young wheelchair users—link in comments. #accessibility #design #product

Co-Founder of Cosmic Velocity, Inclusive Design Studio. Leader, Designer, Facilitator. Helping people create useful and sustainable products and services, and happier teams. Believer in learning via playing.
I had an awesome time speaking at UX Crunch "Designing Beyond Accessibility" by Iconic Agency (Previously Tech Circus) at Fora last week. Exceptional organisers (thank you Myles McMorrow and Luke Reed), welcoming venue and staff, and a brilliant #community. What I took away: 🦺 Designers and researchers would like to know about the techniques to take care of themselves when moderating sensitive research (safeguarding) 🧑💻 People are interested in learning about moderating research with participants with vision and hearing loss, remotely 🫶 There are a lot of ways to ensure we design with care, and don’t unknowingly expose people to triggering experiences (wealth of examples by Erika Menczigar, a solid presentation from Afreen Saulat) 💡 1 in 4 people will be 60 by 2025, and we are nowhere near designing for nearly 2 billion people(mind-blowing stat and great work from Stacey M.) 🧑🤝🧑 It’s key to think about the decision-makers and engage core stakeholders in our process, demonstrating tangible impact your research makes (very informative tips on planning inclusive research from Marianthi Vezertzi) 🚀 Drop us a line at Cosmic Velocity if you’d like to make sure your products and services serve a broader and more diverse audience ❤️ Lovely photo credit Aneta Zokaite #design #research #InclusiveResearch #ServiceDesign #Events #Community #Collaboration

Today, I received an email that took me down memory lane. InVision will discontinue its services by the end of 2024. This news brought back a flood of nostalgic memories from my design journey. I still recall the first time I gave a demo to my leadership team, showing them how our final design would behave using InVision. The amazement in their eyes as static screens transformed into clickable, interactive prototypes that mimicked the real experience was like stepping into the future. However, the tech world is constantly evolving, and despite its groundbreaking contributions, InVision struggled to keep pace with new technologies and competitors. This situation isn't unique to InVision; it's a recurring theme in the technology sector. Adaptation is the key to survival, and failure to do so can lead to obsolescence. As designers, this serves as a critical reminder. The tech industry is dynamic and unpredictable, where rapid evolution and sudden shifts are common. Staying ahead requires continuously honing our skills, embracing new tools, and staying attuned to market trends. Success lies in agility and lifelong learning. Thank you, InVision, for your invaluable contributions to the design world. You've significantly eased our design journeys. #InVision #UXDesign #DesignJourney #Adaptation #LifelongLearning

Transitioning 🚀 Reflecting on my 3 weeks at 10K Designers, it's been a journey. From simple reminders like avoiding decimal padding to understanding the nuances between groups and layouts, every insight adds depth. Moving beyond aesthetics, I'm embracing the shift to product design—where empathy for users and collaboration with developers is paramount. My first assignment, recreating an existing app and understanding the psyche behind it, was something. With guidance from mentors Prerita Yadav and Sajitha, the Zoom sessions were enlightening, providing not just solutions but the 'why' behind them. Now, I fully grasp the concept of Async, as Abhinav Chhikara and Jayneil Dalal would have it. At 10kdesigners, it's more than just a program; it's a supportive community where learning is collaborative and growth is tangible. Grateful for this opportunity and eager to continue the journey. Let's create meaning, not just hype. 🌟 #DesignEvolution #ProductThinking #10KDesigners

A Day in the Life of a Tech Worker: Blending LA's Creativity with SF's Innovation As a #UXUIDesigner, I often reflect on how our work environments shape our creative process. Today, let's explore the fascinating contrasts and synergies between Los Angeles and San Francisco's tech scenes. 🎨 Los Angeles: The Creative Canvas LA's tech scene is a melting pot of art and technology. It's where #UserExperience meets storytelling, influenced by the city's iconic entertainment industry. The lifestyle here promotes a work-life balance that is crucial for creative thinking. As a #BrandingExpert, I find LA's diversity inspiring for designing intuitive and engaging interfaces. 🔬 San Francisco: The Innovation Engine In SF, the pace is exhilarating! The focus is on pushing boundaries in technology. Being in the heart of Silicon Valley means being at the forefront of #TechInnovation. The environment here is about collaboration, learning, and growth, which are key to driving forward-thinking #UserInterface designs. 🔗 Merging Two Worlds In my work, I blend LA’s creative flair with SF’s technological edge. This fusion is what makes #UXDesign exciting and ever-evolving. Whether it's about creating an immersive user experience or innovating with new design techniques, the influence of both cities is evident in my work. 🤝 Networking and Collaboration The tech communities in both cities offer rich opportunities for networking. In LA, you'll find me engaging in creative workshops, while in SF, I'm often at tech talks and seminars. These experiences enrich my perspective as a #BusinessConsultant and #UXUIProfessional. 💡 Final Thoughts Whether it’s the laid-back, creative vibe of LA or the fast-paced, innovative environment of SF, both cities offer unique insights into the world of tech and design. As a UX/UI designer, I thrive on this diversity, constantly learning and evolving with each project. Let's connect and share insights! Are you more aligned with LA’s creative approach or SF’s tech-driven environment? Incredibly excited to be giving a new talk—"Design is 'Connection' Made Manifest"—on Seattle Design Festival 's main stage this August 18th. The themes in this presentation have been congealing for me over the past few years, evolving through my other conference talks, written works, and even business / career decisions. Across "why" we're creating, "how" we're creating, and "where" we're creating, our value is infinitely greater than the sum of our choice of digital tools. I'll (currently) be giving this talk only twice this year, with the second event to be announced soon. The 'formal' talk description: "What is design, if not ‘connection’ made manifest? Given the state of the world over the past few years, with designers navigating the global pandemic, mass layoffs, hybrid / remote work, and a struggling economy, connection is at is apex of relevance. The connection of us to one another, us to our work, and our work to those who engage with it. Be it a concert venue poster, a website, or an app icon, design is solving the problem of engaging people—agnostic of their circumstances—to connect and convey an experience. When we’re in touch with our values, focus on craft evolution over tool loyalty, and create in an environment of support and inclusion: ‘connection’ is the result. Via the power of storytelling with actionable methods, Justin Dauer will show us how to get there." And on the Seattle Design Festival itself, via their website: "The Seattle Design Festival is a platform for bold design conversations. We believe that design is for everyone and that inclusive co-design practices are essential to shaping an equitable Seattle. We are multidisciplinary, socially engaged and civic minded. The Seattle Design Festival was founded in 2011 as a strategic initiative of AIA Seattle to promote public dialogue and community engagement about the role and impact of design in urban life." Seattle Design Festival is a FREE event for the public.
