Today it’s #WorldPatientSafetyDay. The global landscape of healthcare is changing with health systems operating in increasingly complex environments. If and when 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 - intended as 𝘢 𝘧𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘰𝘧 𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘻𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘴 𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘴, 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘴, 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘴, 𝘣𝘦𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴, 𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘯𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦 - is not at the center of everything, technologies and care models born for therapeutic potential, can also pose new threats to safe care. Clear policies, tech companies know-how, organizational leadership capacity, data to drive safety improvements, skilled health care professionals and effective involvement of patients and families in the care process, are 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘢𝘧𝘦𝘵𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦. It is for sure a 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 where all actors must cooperate - as an ethic and moral imperative - hand-in-hand with patients, families and communities. Nothing can replace the human touch, but what if 𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 could help healthcare sector to 𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘯, to 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘥𝘦, to 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘯𝘦𝘳, to 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘴 and to 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯 from patient 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲? How? The answer goes beyond technology and rely on what we, as Milestone Systems strenuously define as one of the main principal of our company: 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁! Because it is exactly what makes us doing 𝘢 𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘧𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘨𝘮, 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴, 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘧𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴. Teaser alert‼️ I will be sharing some exciting news tomorrow about expanding the offerings and reach for BELINTRA and the Sterisystem. In 2024 many health care facilities are ramping up for an influx of patients in our country. Factors like an aging population, postponing care during the pandemic and people living longer will have an impact on the surgical procedure volume all across the United States 🇺🇸. The #cssd department at many facilities is overlooked in this planning and preparation. This department is at the center of being prepared to do more in 2024 and beyond. Our products and people can help get the most out of your 4 walls or if you are looking to renovate your existing department. We can also put your staff in a position to be more productive, safe from injury and enjoy their very important role of protecting patients. Tomorrow! #patientsafety #efficiency #spd #operatingroom #rennovation

Join our ExpoEd session at AACN NTI 2024 to learn more about how Alarm operational metrics can provide an institution with insights beyond alarm management. Actionable alarm metrics and American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards can be utilized by caregivers and institutions to impact patient safety, staffing, monitoring utilization, and alarm management. Improving the adoption of these metrics by front-line staff to c-suite executives can help drive operational efficiencies from the point of care to institutional decision-making.

As my colleague Michael Davis has said....🚀 Exciting news from ECRI! 🚀 #hotoffthepress: Come check out ECRI's Top 10 Patient Safety Concerns 2024. Our report identifies issues that healthcare organizations across the continuum of care should be aware of and take action to address. See which concerns are included so you can prevent adverse events and keep patients safe. This year's list includes: - Challenges Transitioning Newly Trained Clinicians from Education into Practice - Workarounds with Barcode Medication Administration Systems - Barriers to Access Maternal and Perinatal Care #top10 #safetyconcerns #safety #2024concerns #patientsafety #medicationsafety #medication #healthcare #ecri #ismp #maternalhealth #technologyadoption #mentalhealth #diagnosticerror #equitablehealthcare #drugshortages #supplychainmanagement #patientfalls
[BREAKING NEWS] In ECRI's Top 10 Patient Safety Concerns 2024, challenges transitioning newly trained clinicians from education into practice claimed the top spot. Without sufficient preparation, support, and training throughout the transition into practice, new clinicians can experience loss of confidence, burnout, and reduced mindfulness around culture of safety. “Through no fault of their own, clinicians who started practicing medicine in the last several years didn’t have the same early experience as those who came before them – before the pandemic laid bare critical weaknesses in our healthcare system,” said Marcus Schabacker, MD, PhD, president and CEO of ECRI. 1wWow, powerful quotes at the end of this blog: “Alarm fatigue is the villain of healthcare right now. In fiscal year 2023, our Connexall system took in more than 8.5 million alarms and only sent out about 1.2 million to the nurses. I’m really proud of that.” “We have not had a fall with serious injury since our Connexall implementation.” “The Telehub Command Center makes my work much easier. At another site, I was overwhelmed with 30 patients. Here, I manage 60 patients, no problem. Other sites are phone call, phone call, phone call … it wears you out.” #alarmfatigue #fallprevention #telehub #healthit #healthcaretechnology
