Each year at Chemsolv, like all other places I have worked, I get the privilege to host and groom students on internship. My goal ìs and has always been to prepare them for the world of work. Give the interns an edge and help them discover that which they have inside. That gift of uniqueness, character and the strive for excellence. The training, usually tailored, intuitive and interactive challenges their thinking and problem solving skills, teamwork and versatility in the upstream oil and Gas /petroleum industry. A lot of the time, I pull parts and pieces, disguise them in a cunning array of sequels and then leave them to create, resolve, innovate or mould that which is unseen. Its interesting how they discover the tools hidden before their very own senses of perspectives - bringing innovation to the fore. Amazing things happen and this is why we do the things we do. One of these interns wrote me a pretty letter below.

Entering my 4th month as an intern at PETRONAS Chemicals Fertiliser Kedah Sdn Bhd, I've had the valuable opportunity to participate in a walkabout of the project site for the new extension at the wastewater treatment plant. Here's what I've gained from the walkabout: 1. Understanding the importance of Permit to Work (PTW) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in ensuring safety at the workplace. 2. Recognizing that a safe working environment is of utmost importance because it not only protects the well-being of employees but also prevents accidents and ensures smooth project operations. 3. Gaining insights into how the new extension at the wastewater treatment plant functions and learning about its observable parameters. #Internship #StriveForSafety 🚧👷♂️

I've spent the weekend reflecting on my Internship at Shell and honestly, what an amazing experience it has been! My 12 week project was based on finding Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) on the benefits of automating the buying process. My final deliverables included: 1. A Report and Presentation 2. A Template to measure all of the KPIs that I've researched during the integration phase (in the next month) 3. A KPI Management Network that would be used in future projects in Steve Baird's team. My Supervisor Steve Baird, my Mentor Ilnur Nassyrov and Heng Ghee Ng have made sure that I was on the right path for my project and gave me valuable advice along the way. I genuinely feel that I am better able to: 1. Question everything that I'm doing (especially asking "Why?") and improve my clarity and content. 2. Be more concise and focused in my presentations. 3. Understand the energy industry and more specifically, in Shell. 4. Distill and analyse a great deal of research papers into something meaningful and adds value to the company. I've also had the pleasure of having a conversation with Ivan Tan, EVP of Wells, Peter Costello, EVP of Conventional Oil and Gas and Simon Roddy, SVP of UK. I was able to discuss about their past experiences, the future of energy companies as well as the priceless advice that they have given me and my fellow interns David Adeniyi, Maria Johnson, Muhammad Aiman Hafiz M., Alexis Lam, Dhilan Patel, Tori Weston, Edward Young & Sasha Vaswani, who really made me feel like I'm at home, far from home. I have also had the chance to visit the Shell London office and it was enormous! The last thing that I wanted to highlight was the farewell surprise that my team Steve Baird, Heng Ghee Ng, Kay Maybelle Tee, Malvica Ponapa, Bablu Mishra & Khushboo Maini gave me (last picture) and that made me so emotional 🥹 I cannot thank Shell enough for this opportunity of a lifetime. As I immerse myself in the Exploration and Production department of GAIL, I've come to appreciate the intricate web of activities involved in production of oil and gas and ensuring a steady supply of energy resources. Whether it's drilling rigs exploring new reserves or pipelines transporting natural gas across vast distances, each step is a testament to the indispensable nature of this industry. But it's not just about meeting our immediate energy needs; it's about enabling progress and prosperity on a global scale. The products and services provided by oil and gas companies serve as the lifeblood of modern economies, driving innovation, commerce, and connectivity. Yet, amidst this newfound appreciation, I'm also acutely aware of the challenges that lie ahead. From environmental sustainability to geopolitical tensions, the path forward is fraught with complexities and uncertainties. And yet, it is precisely this awareness that fuels my determination to learn and contribute meaningfully to the industry's evolution. As I continue my internship journey, I am committed to gaining a deeper understanding of the intricacies of the oil and gas sector and the pivotal role it plays in shaping our world. Also visited Workshops and Processing Facilities. This week, I got the chance to decipher these intricate diagrams that outline the step-by-step process of power generation. 🔄 From fuel intake to electricity output, understanding PFDs is like reading the plant's secret recipe book. 📖🔑 It's incredible to see how every valve, pump, and turbine works in harmony to produce the energy we rely on daily. 💡💡 Local Exhaust Ventilation of Fume Hood: Clearing the Air Ventilation matters, even in a power plant! 💨. These systems play a crucial role in maintaining air quality by efficiently removing harmful fumes and gases. 🌬️💨 Learning how to assess, operate, and maintain these systems has given me insight into the meticulous attention given to environmental and occupational health in the power industry.
