In the early 1990s, Conoco, The Jane Goodall Institute and the Government of the Congo worked together to improve the living conditions of captive orphan chimpanzees. Decades since ConocoPhillips exited the country, the Tchimpounga Chimpanzee Rehabilitation Center has continued to be a haven for hundreds of chimpanzees. PETAN ADVOCATES LOCAL CONTENT IN NIGERIA'S OIL PRODUCTION, PLEDGES SUPPORT TO WEED OUT 'MIDDLEMEN BUSINESSES' https://lnkd.in/eZdJMKVX Listen to excerpts of PETAN Chairman and CEO, Geoplex Drillteq Limited , Engr. Wole Ogunsanya 's contribution to the topic 'Nigerian Content As A Business Enabler' earlier today at a panel discussion at the ongoing NOG Energy Week Conference & Exhibition His submission is that Nigerian Content has been a business enabler as it has enhanced local operators to offer services in the oil and gas industry that was hitherto offered by multinationals. "PETAN, which clocks 30 years in the oil and gas industry this year, is essentially, the sponsor of the local content law, and in contributing to shape that law, submitted the clause that in the case of divestments in oil and gas assets in Nigeria, Nigerian companies should have first consideration and we're happy to see that these opportunities are birthing strategic collaborations by lowering barrier of entry for local operators, retaining millions of dollars' worth of investment in-country, and building Nigerian brands that work in and beyond Africa". On 'middlemen businesses' that cast shadow on the competencies and integrity of Nigerian oil and gas operators, he expressed the readiness of PETAN to partner relevant stakeholders such as the NCDMB Online and Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) to weed them out through the introduction of a PETAN's seal of quality with an internationally recognised certification company to serve as an additional layer of authenticating those listed on the NCDMB's NOGIC JQS portal and NUPRC's National Data Repository". Watch the full video on our YouTube channel - https://lnkd.in/eZdJMKVX The panel was moderated by Rosario Osobase , Chairperson, Petroleum Contractors Trade Section (PCTS PETROLEUM CONTRACTORS TRADE SECTION ) & Managing Director, Tenaris Nigeria. Other Panellists included Isaac Yalah , Director, Planning, Research & Statistics, Nigerian Content Development & Monitoring Board (NCDMB); Engr. Abayomi Bamidele, Director – Project Certification & Authorisation, Nigerian Content Development & Monitoring Board (NCDMB); Osagie Okunbor , Chairman, Oil Producers Trade Section (OPTS), represented by Cosmas Iwueze , Director, NNPC/Chevron JV and Industry Cost Efficiency Lead, OPTS. #localcontent #oilproduction #businessgrowth #oilandgas #development #partnerships #collaboration #localbusinesses #assets #Nigeria #Africa #nog2024

Today I have the privilege to participate in stakeholders/ Global Greengrants Fund (GGF) grantees forum organized by Global Media Foundation. The activity took place in Sunyani. The workshop which was sponsored by GGF seeks to bring all stakeholders/organizations especially those ever benefited from grants to share their works, achievements and lessons. The workshop discussed and highlighted among others some of the impacts (contribution) that GGF grants support have made and still making on grantees organizations and the communities in which they work. In addition, the forum discussed the major social and environmental challenges confronting our individual communities and collectively as a country. The forum also developed a common advocacy strategy to address those social and environmental challenges. In going forward, members of the forum have agreed to establish a GGF grantee network, establish a secretariat, and put in place a five member management committee to steer the affairs of the network. Members of the network will work together to address key climate change issues, environmental, mining and social Issues in our local communities. The network will also work together to promote the SDGs in our communities. Participants were mainly representatives from local civil society organizations, NGOs, advocacy groups and community base organizations across the country.

The EWT, with support from WESSA, conducted a study on the State of Provincial Reserves in South Africa. The report analysed data from METT reports (Management Effectiveness Tracking Tool) and expert opinion based on survey responses and interviews conducted with provincial reserve managers, conservation practitioners, and non-government representatives. Results highlighted that several South African Provincial Reserves with high-scoring conservation value are not effectively managed. Key challenges include lack of critical skills and capacity, poor management and implementation, and inadequate budgets. Opportunities to address these challenges and key recommendations include building staff capacity and ensuring experienced managers are appointed, encouraging partnerships and collaboration with the private sector, NGOs and communities, and sourcing additional funding options. Several other challenges and opportunities were raised in the report. Read more here by visiting our website

It's been quite a week for Galp ... and its share price 📈 Speaking of shares, I've shared these comments before ... but, channelling my inner Britney ... let me 'hit you (baby) one more time'. I joined the E&P industry in 1984 ... and by the late 80's, I'd started to hear (again and again) that the next big hot spot for the industry would be Namibia. It seems that those in the know were right ... give or take 35-40 years :-) The Namibia story beautifully encapsulates the world of E&P ... you need very deep pockets and an appetite for high risk ... and it helps to have patience! But when you get it right the rewards reflect the scale of the capital investments and the risk ... high risk / high reward! Good luck to Galp ... to the other E&P companies active in Namibia ... including NAMCOR.
