May is Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the diverse cultures, histories, and contributions of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities in the United States. AAPI culture has enriched the fabric of American society and continues to shape our nation's identity. Did you know? According to Nielson, the collective purchasing power of Asian Americans is over $1 trillion, far exceeding the increase in purchasing power of all other racial and ethnic groups over the same period. For comparison, the total U.S. buying power grew 119% during the same period. Additionally, there are 3 million AAPI-owned businesses and 643,000 Asian employer firms in the United States. AAPI employer-owned businesses represent nearly 13 percent of all employer businesses, contribute more $1 trillion in receipts and more than 5.2 million jobs to the U.S. economy. 🌺🌏✨ Celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month! 🌟🎉 May is dedicated to honoring the rich tapestry of Asian American, Pacific Islander American, and Native Hawaiian cultures. It's a time to recognize the significant contributions these communities have made to our nation's history and fabric. Did you know? The roots of this celebration trace back to the inaugural Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Week in 1979, spearheaded by New York Representative Frank Horton and Hawaii Senator Daniel Inouye. From overcoming adversity to driving innovation, AAPI communities have left an indelible mark on America. Despite facing discrimination throughout history, their resilience and contributions continue to inspire us. This year's theme, "Advancing Leaders Through Innovation," underscores the importance of recognizing and fostering AAPI leadership and innovation. 💡 Let's take this month to celebrate diversity, honor heritage, and reaffirm our commitment to inclusivity and equity. We recognize Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month, a time to honor and celebrate the invaluable contributions that generations of Americans from Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander backgrounds made to our nation's history, society and culture. Bayer’s Business Resource Group BASIA (Bayer Asian Society Inclusion Alliance) theme for this year’s #AANHPI celebration is embracing resilience. The American Psychological Association defines resilience as the process and outcome of successfully adapting to challenging life experiences, primarily through mental, emotional, and behavioral flexibility and adjustment to external and internal demands. The American story, a testament to resilience and strength, is intricately woven with the voices and legacies of AANHPI individuals. Their contributions have been instrumental in building and uniting our country. By embracing their resilience, we can draw inspiration to overcome life's challenges and emerge stronger. #TeamBayer
