Real-world data can be used for causal inference! Once we have our causal question, a crucial step is choosing the data source. Why? There are a lot of options: electronic health records, claims databases, registries and more. Sometimes it can be difficult deciding between the options. Some key things to consider: - Ability to apply I/E criteria (can we apply all of them? If not, can we apply the most important ones? - Is the outcome of interest captured? - Variables available (i.e., adequate for adjusting for confounding) - Time to access data I personally find a feasibility assessment can be helpful. Recommend reading the below article (Gatto et al.) if you're trying to decide between multiple data sources to answer the causal question of interest https://lnkd.in/eRg9Sf-W #CausallyCurious #RealWorldEvidence #CausalInference #RealWorldData
