Combining the realms of commercial and social innovation with my area of study in behavioural finance and economics, usually throughs up a few interesting insights for me. Inspired by Dwayne Wescombe's post, I'm reminded of Nassim Nicholas Taleb's words in "Antifragile": "The edge of reason lies in your capacity to make strategically designed mistakes in a frame of mind sufficiently open that you do not make them again." Creating an environment where team members feel comfortable challenging norms without the fear of potential embarrassment or marginalisation is key to fostering true innovation and business agility. When we adopt this mindset, we nurture psychological safety, benefiting humans humans at the centre and the bottom line. Pursuing our audacious goals requires effort, innovation, and courage—qualities we humans excel at, if we can only be unreasonable.
