I always look forward to the Totaljobs quarter trends reports. 1000 HR leaders were surveyed and a lot of the findings really resonated with what we are seeing at Possibl, particularly around skills, learning and development, internal mobility and EDI. Some highlights: 84% of businesses recruited in Q1 2024, increasing from 78% in Q4 and Q1 2023. Positively, 74% of businesses are confident they will recruit the people they need in Q2 2024 despite rising economic inactivity and skills and labour shortages. At the same time, businesses are focusing more on internal mobility and upskilling to plug skills gaps in their organisations. 3 in 5 (59%) businesses are experiencing increased competition to find the talent with the right skills. As a result of skills and labour shortages, they face higher hiring times and costs, greater candidate expectations around salary and benefits as well as flexible working, and difficulty ensuring diversity of candidates.

"Time-to-hire has been trending up, and is about 40 percent higher than pre-pandemic," said Stephen Bronars, an economist and partner at Edgeworth Economics in Washington, D.C. Bronars believes time-to-hire could be closer to 50 days, based on data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. While this is a serious challenge, there are opportunities for improvement. Janet Mertens, senior VP of research at The Josh Bersin Company, recommends tapping into internal talent pools, removing barriers to internal mobility, seeking gig and contract workers, and embracing automation and predictive analytics to drive hiring efficiencies. "Another thing we have seen is the mindset change to move away from going it alone," Mertens said. "Companies that build an ecosystem of vendor partners like RPO [recruitment process outsourcing] firms are experiencing more stability during sudden shifts in demand." While businesses traditionally leverage recruiters, staffing agencies, or job boards to find the help they need, many are increasingly turning to gig economy apps as an alternative. Why? One word — cost! Although you may want to rely on full-time employees completely, gig economy workers could be a more cost-effective workforce option for your business. 85% of workers worry they'll lose their job this year. Is your staffing & recruiting firm prepared to efficiently help them? If your firm is not able to help candidates at the speed the market demands, it's likely because of outdated recruitment workflows coupled with poor data management practices. IE: still using Boolean search strings, facing duplicate profiles, missing phone numbers and emails, poor or non-existent search & match capabilities, or using an ATS that ranks candidates based on key term match and not actual experience... to name a few. As a former recruiter myself, I understand these pain points from first hand experiences that I'd rather not experience again. Fortunately, these are all problems that we've been solving for 20+ years, across all verticals in Recruiting & Staffing and HR departments, and for thousands of companies big & small. If you're interested in discussing what problems your Recruiting & Staffing firm or HR Department is facing in 2024 and how we have already solved those problems for other companies like yours let me know, happy to schedule a high level call with you and your company. Feel free to direct message me.

The Real Costs of Recruitment in 2024 Alright folks, let’s get real about hiring new talent in 2024. It’s a crazy ride, and it’s not cheap. According to the latest stats from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the average cost per hire is now nearly $5,500. But let’s be honest, many companies say it feels more like three to four times the salary of the position, according to Edie Goldberg from E. L. Goldberg & Associates. So, if you're hiring someone with a $70,000 salary, you might be shelling out $210,000 or more to fill that spot. Insane, right? Hard vs. Soft Costs Here’s the breakdown. About 30 to 40 percent of these costs are hard costs—things like job ads, recruitment agency fees, and the tech tools you need. The other 60 percent? Soft costs, baby. That’s all the time your team spends on this whole process. #RecruitmentCosts #HiringTrends2024 #TalentAcquisition #HRInsights #EmployeeExperience #WorkplaceCulture #TalentManagement #HiringStrategies #RecruitmentTips #FutureOfWork #EmployeeRetention #HRTech #WorkforcePlanning #JobMarket2024 #EmployeeEngagement
