What's the difference between being a team member on an established product vs. a 0->1 product? After over a dozen 0->1 builds, here's what we think it takes to be a good designer or developer under those circumstances.

Struggling to validate your idea before you build it? Consider building a Wizard of Oz prototype 🧙♂️ You create a mockup of your product experience with a human "wizard" behind the scenes, manually controlling what the product is supposed to do—like the man behind the curtain in The Wizard of Oz. This approach lets you find out if your big idea resonates with real customers — before you've built a full-on working prototype. No need to wait months to get validation. 😉 Watch the full video here: https://lnkd.in/gPfwsJhY #prototyping #productdevelopment #wizardofoz

A few years ago, Carsten Müller, Tim Hartmann, and I had to build the product from scratch because of overwhelming tech debt. Because we had to redesign it, we wanted to make it as user-centric as possible. Relaunching our UI was a rollercoaster. From an uproar of complaints to a substantial engagement boost, the journey taught us the importance of patience and discernment. Also, that my voice gets high-pitched when I'm under stress 😂 Swipe through to see our journey from overwhelming feedback to tangible results. And if you've ever faced a similar situation, how did you navigate the initial post-launch chaos? Let's discuss!

Last month, Sketch hosted our latest Innovation Summit which showcased all the hard work and final products everyone at Sketch came up with during our innovation days. During that time, one team built a virtual escape room: "Agile Freedom". Curious about how to play or how it went? Check out the brief overview and video below: This team wanted to create something in Rust that would be a fun experience where they could demonstrate some agile knowledge. The players start by searching for hidden QR codes and if they can't be found, a riddle will be sent to a random player to help pinpoint the location of the hidden codes. Once a code is located, they are given a multiple-choice question. When all hidden QR codes are found and questions are answered correctly before the clock runs out, they have won the game! Interested in learning more details about the game? Send us a message! We’d be happy to discuss. #sketchdevelopment #innovationdays #agilefreedom

You might equate iteration with slowing things down. With revisiting the past when you want to get to the future. Stop that. ✋ Iteration speeds things up in the long run. Fixing design flaws late in the game can be 100× more expensive than catching them early and iterating. Which do you think is cheaper — building a 3-bedroom house then turning it into a 4-bedroom house, or building a 3-bedroom 𝘣𝘭𝘶𝘦𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘵 then turning it into a 4-bedroom 𝘣𝘭𝘶𝘦𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘵? Rapid prototyping and user testing cost a fraction of rebuilding later. Refining early saves massive amounts of time and money down the road. So, don’t see iteration as a cost. See it as an investment in greatness. Iterate now to save heartache and resources later.

Just counted... we've now run more than 250 sprints over the past 15 years... most of them at the VERY beginning of big projects. Here's 5 key ideas from 15 years: 1. By rapidly and repeatedly prototyping and testing your ideas, you'll find product-market fit sooner. 2. By identifying your strategy and differentiation upfront, you'll be more likely to design a product and marketing that "clicks" with customers. (This is our focus in the Foundation Sprint.) 3. Since most customers see your "story" before they see your product, you should start there — if you don't get the marketing and sales right, the product doesn't matter. (This is the Story Sprint.) 4. Waiting until you have an MVP to test with customers is too slow; do it now with Design Sprints. 5. Building something new is all about navigating the unknown. Make a Risk Roadmap so you know exactly what you need to validate in order to keep moving forward. p.s. Want to be part of sprints #251 and on? Applications are now open for the next group of founders to join Character Labs. We've got room for five teams! More info here: https://lnkd.in/gz5xsdYt

1st MVP should always be used to validate your core concepts. We always start the development based upon our research in design and discovery. Then, we make assumptions to begin with development. When we are ready with the 1st MVP (which should have minimum features) we should use it for validation of our core concept. There is always a chance where it may be possible that the assumptions that we have made may be proven wrong. It’s easier to pivot and move in the right direction saving cost, time and manpower. Tell me if I missed something here. #ArthKaArth #ProductManagement
