Apple's got big AI plans for its iPhones....there's just a good chance you might not get to use them. Apple's long-awaited unveiling of its generative AI strategy didn't disappoint. In classic Apple fashion, the tech giant put its own spin on the tech, dubbing it "Apple Intelligence." Apple's pitch is that iPhones hold an incredible amount of data, meaning more personalized AI services that understand your context. As enticing as that may sound, only the newest iPhones will be able to leverage Apple's new AI capabilities. More on Business Insider #apple #tech #ai #iphones #wwdc

With more than a billion iPhone users, it’s both well-positioned to be cautious, and arguably needs to be cautious. So far, the most aggressive critique of Apple Intelligence has come from Elon Musk, whose ventures include an AI company: If Apple integrates OpenAI “at the OS level,” he will ban its devices from his companies. Probably Apple can live with that. As a branding move, Apple Intelligence speaks to a potential majority of customers who would rather see the iPhone improved than replaced (or supplemented) with a different gizmo. And over time, taking full advantage of most of these new AI features will, of course, require a new iPhone. If a little branding daring can add enough AI sheen to keep those customers coming back, Apple will end up looking pretty clever. Welcome to AI 🍎.

AI = Apple Intelligence = AI for the rest of us Brilliant keynote today at Apple's WWDC announcing Apple Intelligence. After more than 1 hour into the keynote presentation, when I thought no breaking news around AI would come, Tim Cook announced Apple Intelligence. I think Apple got it absolutely spot on, by playing on what makes their products unique: easy to use, safe and slick! In summary, they are putting AI in our iPhones, iPads and Macs. Looks like Siri will finally become the real AI assistant we've all been waiting for. Here are some things it can do: - Prioritize your notifications - Write text on any app that you're using - Create images, even referencing people in your photo albums - Understand commands like "Play the song that Priscila texted me" - Reference information across apps and on your screen All built with privacy in mind, with most models run on the device, so information doesn't need to go anywhere. When the models "need" to run in the cloud (e.g., GPT-4o is too big for the iPhone), it'll run on Apple's Private Cloud Compute, a way to get the power of cloud without sacrificing privacy. And OpenAI GPT will be seamlessly integrated into Apple AI's interface, and other models will be integrated in the future as well. All of that at no additional cost to the users. Let's see how it will really work when Apple releases the new OS versions in the Fall! Watch it here: https://lnkd.in/gn8guRvg #AI Aeonix Technopreneurs LLC

With $160B+ of cash on their BS and an unrivaled R&D budget of over $29B, what should we expect from Apple in the AI world? 🔍 1. AI on the Edge: Last year, Apple released "LLM in a Flash," a research paper that introduced how LLMs could be deployed directly on devices like iPhones. This major leap in inference efficiency, using flash memory instead of DRAM, could revolutionize how we interact with LLMs. 🐾 2. New Multi-Modal Models: In October 2023, Apple unveiled Ferret, an OSS LLM proficient in analyzing and describing small image areas. Could there be more personalized mini models to come, a Siri 2.0? 🔮 3. Apple will compete head-on with “AI-Native” products across both Hardware and Software: From potential AI-powered versions of Vision Pro to the integration of AI into devices like AirPods and Apple Watch, the tech giant is poised to leverage its global supply chain and disrupt many AI native startups. Vivek Ramaswami and share more detailed thoughts on what we think Apple could be cooking up this year. Would love to hear what you think!

Apple explores AI collaboration with Google: a potential game-changer Apple is in discussions with Google to elevate AI capabilities on iPhones, as reported by Bloomberg. These talks also involve OpenAI, indicating Apple's strategic exploration of partnerships in the AI landscape. Bloomberg's report suggests that Apple is in negotiations to license Google's Gemini AI model set for integration into iPhone software. In its pursuit of AI advancement, particularly in generative capabilities, Apple aims to enhance features like image creation and essay writing on iPhones. While Apple plans to leverage its in-house AI models for the upcoming iOS 18, collaborating with Google could further amplify these capabilities. Despite the absence of specific deal terms, Bloomberg hints that an official announcement may not occur before June, coinciding with Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference. The newest Apple move is a fantastic strategic move. In a burgeoning field like GenAI, managers have to face the tradeoff between exploration and exploitation. Exploration in this case would involve improving product quality (R&D $$$), finding new use cases (sales and marketing $$$) etc - and it can be argued that these are largely phenomena outside any one entity’s control given how fast the market is dislocating. Exploitation however, seems to be mainly centered around solving distribution. Apple is able to walk up to any advanced AI player and say, “can we help to instantly provide your product to hundreds of millions of the wealthiest phone owners on the planet?” Turns out, even an overnight AI giant like Open “best thing since sliced bread” AI needs a reliable distribution partner. And if that’s a fit, it’s a deal. #watchthisspace

Watched Apple’s WWDC 24 last night, and I have to say, Apple’s move to rebrand AI as “Apple Intelligence” is a classic Apple move. While Microsoft, ChatGPT, and Google are racing in their own ways, Apple does what it does best—puts its unique spin on things. Apple has a knack for taking existing tech and making it feel fresh and exciting. Remember how they did it with the iPhone and the iPad? Now, they’ve done it again with AI. Calling it Apple Intelligence isn’t just a name change; it’s about making AI feel integrated, user-friendly, and, of course, very Apple. This is why Apple stands out. They don’t just follow trends; they redefine them. By focusing on user experience and privacy, they’re setting a new standard for how AI can be seamlessly part of our daily lives. What do you think about this move? How do you see Apple Intelligence shaping the future of tech? #Apple #WWDC24 #Branding #AI #Innovation
