After feeling disheartened about not landing an internship this summer, I decided to apply to an AR Development Extern role at Snap Inc. After facing so many rejections, I didn't think this opportunity would be any different. However, after seeing my acceptance email into the program, I was ecstatic. While I don't know how many people applied, I know that only 100 applicants were accepted. Considering Snap's prominence as a major social media company, particularly among Gen-Zers, I can only imagine the volume of applications they received. The application process followed the usual steps of submitting a resume and LinkedIn profile. However, I wasn't expecting to answer a supplemental question. It read something along the lines of, "What do you intend to gain from this experience? Why is that important to you?" I struggled to find the right words as I feared not standing out amongst other applicants. Ultimately, I stated that this externship is important because it presents an opportunity to deepen my understanding of AR technology beyond what my university curriculum offers, as my current coursework lacks any focus on AR. By enhancing my expertise through this externship, I can prove to other students that their learning experiences aren't solely confined to university curriculum. This experience serves as a reminder to remain authentic when responding to such questions or during any interview process. How will this experience make a meaningful impact to you?
