We are pleased to host this annual event and excited to be adding a reading of the Freedom Petition co-authored by Prince Whipple. The inclusion of Prince Whipple and the Freedom Petition is very much in keeping with the theme of independence; and invites us to recognize that our journey as a nation is long, and full of triumphs and short-comings, enlightenment and contradiction. Democracy is an ideal that requires ongoing care, practice, and tending; and the two stories shared together is an energizing reminder of that. https://lnkd.in/eUig2UGc

We wish you a happy and safe Fourth of July! Independence Day, known colloquially as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday in the United States which commemorates the ratification of the Declaration of Independence by the Second Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, establishing the United States of America. The Founding Father delegates of the Second Continental Congress declared that the Thirteen Colonies were no longer subject (and subordinate) to the monarch of Britain, King George III, and were now united, free, and independent states. The Congress voted to approve independence by passing the Lee Resolution on July 2 and adopted the Declaration of Independence two days later, on July 4. Independence Day is commonly associated with fireworks, parades, barbecues, carnivals, fairs, picnics, concerts, baseball games, family reunions, political speeches, and ceremonies, in addition to various other public and private events celebrating the history, government, and traditions of the United States. Independence Day is the national day of the United States. #iPS #iPSSelect #4thOfJuly #IndependenceDay #FourthofJuly #IndependenceDay #USA #July4th #AmericanHistory #Freedom #Fireworks #Barbecue #FamilyReunion #Celebration #Patriotism #RedWhiteandBlue #America #StarsandStripes #DeclarationofIndependence #FoundingFathers #RevolutionaryWar #Liberty #Unity #ProudAmerican #LandoftheFree #HomeoftheBrave #GodBlessAmerica #UnitedStates #CelebrateAmerica #HistoryInAction

Juneteenth, officially Juneteenth National Independence Day, is a federal holiday in the United States. It is celebrated annually on June 19 to commemorate the ending of slavery. The holiday's name is a portmanteau of the words "June" and "nineteenth", as it was on June 19, 1865, when Major General Gordon Granger ordered the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas at the end of the American Civil War. The survival of liberty in our land increasingly depends on the success of liberty in other lands. The best hope for peace in our world is the expansion of freedom in all the world.

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Jubilee Day, is a federal holiday that commemorates the announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas on June 19, 1865. Although the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed by President Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863, it took more than two years for the news to reach Texas, which was still under Confederate control during the Civil War!
