At Discovery Mood & Anxiety, we want to provide unwavering comfort and support as patients learn to manage their mental health struggles. That’s why we are now offering partial hospitalization (PHP) with boarding at our San Jacinto location. With PHP, we have created a transitional haven where adolescents continue therapeutic programming and life skills development so that they can reenter post-treatment life while fostering confidence, independence and self-sufficiency. All in a day's work today for the Tooled Up team: 1. We uploaded our our girls' mental health conference for editing and curating by our research team! Wow, what a day that was. We learned so much. 2. We supported a parent with a bed-wetting issue, via a teacher, who requested support. 3. We met with a headteacher and listened to some themes that she wanted included in an upcoming talk. 6. We made final edits to a resource article on teen relationship breakups for one of our schools. 7. We thought about an appropriate host for our upcoming online conference on protecting children from violence and harm. 8. We received about 12 parent questions relating to children's engagement with digital technology. 9. We designed a new talk on behavioural issues in Year 2-3 with a Consultant Psychiatrist. 10. Absolutely agree. The current dependance on cell phones 📱 causes children, certainly adolescents, to isolate themselves from their peers and the world 🌎🌍🌏 around them, thereby strongly affecting their socialisation. They reduce the opportunity and value of talking and expressing themselves verbally, to learning to read 💻📖 and write. ⌨️🖋️📜 They limit the potential of developping their imagination ✨ and thereby creating ideas 💡of their own. 🤸🏽 They limit the opportunity to develop the capacity for analysis, forming their own perspectives 🌌 voicing and exchanging ideas ⚡️ and opinions 🌟 debating them with their peers and those around them, learning from others. They are an evident necessity, and means of communication 🛰️ and information gathering, particularly in their world, 🌎 where new information is generated massively 🥵and by the instant. ⏱️ However, the invasive use of cell phones in every sphere of children and youth's lives, does compromise their development 🧗🏻and does pose the risk 🪂 to overtaking all we value in traditional education. 🐝 The cliché of robots 🤖replacing humans does come to mind. 😉 NB and ... they can lead to obesity ...
The most interesting thing in tech: New research from Norway shows that banning phones in middle school improves educational outcomes and mental health for girls and reduces bullying for everyone. It’s more evidence to add to the pile showing that every school should do this immediately.

The EU Commission recently released recommendations to better protect children from violence across it’s member states. Detailed findings from the EU Children's Participation Platform involving children aged 7-17 across 21 countries are now available at https://lnkd.in/eyQdmDFp. One key insight reveals children's desire for better education on potential risks, dangers, and available support. Key takeaways from the study include children's expectations from adults: - Listening attentively and respectfully - Involving children in decision-making processes - Providing essential information on risks, support channels, and reporting unsafe situations - Ensuring timely help, clear rules, and access to specialized support - Fostering collaboration among adults to create a protective environment and address children's problems effectively. As educational leaders, prioritizing safety information delivery and advocating for students' mental health and well-being aligns with children's needs for support, understanding, and active participation in solutions- it's vital that we continue to prioritise this facet of the student journey at all levels #ChildProtection #YouthEmpowerment #EducationForAll

🧟♀️ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐙𝐨𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐞 𝐀𝐩𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐩𝐬𝐞 🧟 💪 I'm 100% passionate about new, emerging and existing tech for good. 🤯 That said, there's far too much pressure on children, and particularly those in private/ independent schools to have the latest tech be that mobiles or laptops. 👏 There's also an increasing stack of 'reputable' research that supports banning mobiles (for personal use) in schools. 👩💻 The right tech should be provided by schools to positively impact student outcomes not compete and take part in cruel or reckless stunts on SC or TT. 🦸♂️ Let's not raise a zombie generation either.. #bullying #harassment #exclusion #zombies #GenerationZombie 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬? Gathering back to school supplies is a must on many of our to-do lists and can be filled with hopes and dreams for our young ones to grow and flourish in the new school year ahead of them. But a successful school year doesn’t necessarily start and stop with a supply list. In addition to basic school needs, essentials for both physical and mental health can support children and adolescents as they develop and learn. Learn more about what your kids need to prepare for the school year, here: https://lnkd.in/gtER7BvA

We use and share lots of ACT-based interventions - it’s a great therapy approach for child work. The Action Heroes cards are a helpful resource for exploring ACT strategies with older children. What resources do you like to use in ACT sessions? (I’m always looking for fun new resources!) #acceptanceandcommitmenttherapy #psychology
