Driving Social Innovation at American Family Insurance | Advocate for Fair Chance Hiring | Champion of Sustainable & Inclusive Societies
Fair chance hiring isn’t just a policy—it's a pathway to greater diversity, equity, inclusion, and opportunity for 1 in 3 adults in the U.S. workforce. By embracing these practices, we open doors for 80 million individuals with arrest or conviction records in America who are ready to contribute to our workforce as they reintegrate into society. Thank you, Perri Small for a great conversation about #FairChanceHiring and the opportunity to raise awareness on a topic that is so important for businesses, families, and communities, and an issue that is close to my heart. Hiring justice-impacted individuals is crucial to opening doors for workers whose potential to contribute to our economy and our communities is so often overlooked. Let's continue to break down the barriers to employment for justice-impacted individuals and build a future where everyone has the opportunity to succeed. #InclusiveHiring #SocialImpact #FairChanceHiring #PerriSmallShow

I was recently interviewed regarding the impact of a grant we had received from a generous organization who truly values and aligns with the mission of the JCC of Central NJ. The final interview question was thought provoking and spoke to me so I'm sharing my answer with you today. QUESTION: Addressing our potential readers - what more can ALL OF US do to ensure the full and complete inclusion of those with different abilities and backgrounds in our society? ANSWER: Everyone can find a way to be more inclusive. Open your ears to hearing the lived experiences of others. Open your heart to care more deeply for those around you who need care. Open your mind to welcome the idea that everyone can participate meaningfully in some way and open your eyes to see the many opportunities for inclusion in your own life and community. Where you see opportunity, participate. Where you see gaps, create opportunity.

CEO l SIA Global Power Women 150 l SIA DE&I Influencer l Confronts Workforce Equity Gaps I Skills-Based Hiring Champion
My response to the workforce implications since the Supreme Court struck down Affirmative Action in college admissions: It’s time to break it down. 🧱 It’s time to rebuild into something better than before. While the Supreme Court’s decision may not directly impact workplaces, there’s no question that organizations need to consider the effects this might have on their DEI progress. The unfortunate reality is that our networks often remain homogeneous, limiting our potential to harness the power of diverse perspectives. But this ruling presents an opportunity—an imperative—to change that narrative. To expand our networks into new and overlooked talent pools, we must first break it down. Break down every silo that exists and dismantle every assumption and belief we have about talent. Break it all down so we can build it back up into something better.💡 Recruiting from the same talent pool yields the same results. When we narrow our focus to identical degrees, experience levels, and familiar places, we reinforce a cycle that hinders growth and innovation. The outcome is evident in companies struggling to fill open positions and retain talent. The only way to break out of that cycle is to challenge the status quo and seek out new and different avenues for sourcing talent. What conversations are happening at your organization in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s ban on affirmative action? #AffirmativeAction #Recruiting #Staffing #Hiring #SkillsBasedHiring

Often times our work defines us and that is why employment is such a strong solution to recidivism. Part of that solution is identifying employers who believe in second chances and fostering spaces for them to connect with ex-offenders who are eager to work - including here on LinkedIn. If you are currently hiring and want to be added to our employment network, please leave a comment below this video!

📢 Did you know? 🔹 Did you know that hiring felons can have a positive impact on your workforce? 🤔 ✅ Hiring justice-impacted individuals can bring numerous benefits to your organization and the community. Let's explore why it's important to consider this untapped talent pool: 1️⃣ Diverse Perspectives: Felons often possess unique life experiences that can contribute to a diverse and inclusive workplace. Their perspectives can bring fresh ideas, creativity, and problem-solving skills. 2️⃣ Loyalty and Dedication: Studies have shown that employees with a criminal record tend to be more dedicated and loyal to their employers. Given the opportunity to rebuild their lives, they demonstrate a strong commitment to personal growth and professional development. 3️⃣ Strong Work Ethic: Many justice-impacted individuals understand the value of second chances and are highly motivated to prove themselves. Their determination to succeed often translates into a strong work ethic and a willingness to go the extra mile. 4️⃣ Access to a Larger Talent Pool: By considering candidates with criminal records, you can tap into a larger talent pool and find skilled individuals who may have been overlooked by other employers. This can help address your workforce shortage and fill critical positions. 🤝 We are excited to announce that Indiana Reentry Corporation is collaborating with local employers to create lasting partnerships. Our goal is to provide support and resources to justice-impacted individuals, helping them turn their lives around and become valuable members of the workforce. 🔗 By joining forces with the Indiana Reentry Corporation, employers can find dedicated and skilled individuals who are ready to make a positive impact. Together, we can bridge the gap, address workforce shortages, and build a stronger community. #SecondChances #WorkforceDevelopment #CommunityImpact #DiversityandInclusion 📞 Contact us today to learn more about how you can be part of this important initiative and make a difference.

Success for a returning citizen makes Chicagoland stronger... here's how... If you’re in the workforce and social services space you’re familiar with the phrase “returning citizen.” But if you're a Chicago area business this is important for you and your hiring. Who is a "returning citizen" and why does it matter to you? They’ve served their time, left prison, and most often returned to the places that sent them to prison in the first place, and now they face barriers that continue to punish them for past mistakes. When they ask about a job, they’re told the company doesn’t hire people like them. Or, when they apply for a chance to show they’re ready for a good job and to do good work, they don’t hear back. And we all can recite the price we all pay for this – the painful and preventable cycles of recidivism, reinforced racial disparity and injustice that divides our communities, and the troubling disquiet in real lives that discourages and robs us all of a better future.
