In a letter to readers today, Wall Street Journal Editor in Chief Emma Tucker wrote about the upcoming sham trial of our colleague, WSJ reporter Evan Gershkovich, and the critical role of media organizations in reporting responsibly on the proceedings and the baseless allegations Evan faces. “To even call it a trial, however, is unfair to Evan and a continuation of this travesty of justice that already has gone on for far too long.” Read the full letter here: #IStandWithEvan #JournalismIsNotACrime https://lnkd.in/dBRsvSsY

The Wall Street Journal has surpassed "the National Inquirer" in tabloid fake news with its latest Carl Rove hit job piece full of rumor, innuendo and little to no facts on the Ken Paxton impeachment. I've read just about every article I can find on this particular subject. I've read every court filing for the underlying cases. The SEC case was thrown out for lack of evidence 2 weeks ago in Houston Texas. The Texas state case on same "securities fraud" charge has not a single piece of evidence either and the motions to compel evidence or dismiss for lack of evidence will be heard in October 2023. Regarding the Texas House Impeachment: - 19 of Ann Johnson's 20 impeachment charges lack any evidence whatsoever and motions are filed to dismiss in Senate trial - 3 Democrat Senators violated Senate Jurist rules making public statements of Paxton's "certain guilt" and motions to remove them from Senate trial proceedings are filed - Paxton's attorney Buzbee produced the personal checks to home remodel contractors that cleared the bank debunking the "bribery" claim The Wall Street Journal and all Hearst Media "news" continually forget to mention these actual facts or they are paid to not mention these facts. There are no other charges or claims in any court or impeachment other than these I've mentioned. Carl Rove and his Bush/Obama/Clinton (yes, they are all in a three way now) may give him a political shellacking, but, that's all. They lack any sworn testimony and solid verifiable evidence and have been compelled to produce it missing all deadlines repeatedly, even in the Federal and State cases. The real underlying question is this: Who wants the most successful Texas Attorney General at stopping big giant federal government over reach attacking your and my liberty out of the way? The answer to that question is the real story you and I should be the most concerned about. I like liberty and a lot of it. I loath the fake news and the idiots that quote it as gospel. And, like a lot of you, I'm disgusted at the "NEWS" media because they publish political hit jobs constantly and very little actual fact. We had to dig through court records and speak with Texas House and Senate members and the Texas House document librarian to get the FACTS of the matter. Compare this Carl Rove "hit job" by the Wall Street Journal and see if you can find any material fact or if it is just a gaggle of little old church ladies spreading gossip... https://lnkd.in/gK4h468s Now, if you want a list of facts, timelines and actual analysis regarding the political hit job that is being perpetrated on Ken Paxton, you might want to read this from the BIZPAC NEWS HOUR: https://lnkd.in/gW_hsJQ4

The Regulatory Studies Center at George Washington University in DC is one of the world's pre eminent think tanks studying the evolution of better regulation and the craft of regulation in the US federal government. For those of you interested in regulation, I recommend that you follow their LinkedIn posts.
This morning the Wall Street Journal's banner headline story is based on the work of the The George Washington University Regulatory Studies Center Studies Center. RSC Faculty Co-Director Steve Ball and RSC Policy Analyst Sarah Hay published a paper analyzing regulatory actions subject to the Congressional Review Act over the years. All of us at the RSC are proud of the work being done by our scholars and additions like this to our understanding of regulatory actions. The article is behind the WSJ paywall but is well worth reading if you have access.

Publisher, Investigative Visual Journalist, Public Records Expert, Local - Community News- Advocate for Cameras in Court
Back in the day the San Jose Mercury would report on who was arrested and who was found guilty in court. We thought we understood the story and the assignment. This morning we published an article about the win of a local San Jose social media journalist in an anti-Slapp lawsuit. We reported on this when San Jose City Councilman Peter Ortiz first filed the restraining order against East Side San Jose Times. What surprised me doing this story ? 1. How shamelessly unethical the San Jose Mercury News has become in their local reporting. They broke the story of a temporary restraining order being granted for Ortiz. But they didn’t get comment from the journalist or his attorney when they did. Nor did they follow up to report Ortiz lost and was found to have violated the First Amendment rights of a journalist. 2. That Jidge Geffon denied our media requests and closed the courtroom to the remote public , but called the case a matter of public interest. 3. That all of the San Jose City Councilmembers , City Attorney and the mayor have remained mum while these elected officials claim they are fearful of speech as they use city resources to claim they are fearful of their personal safety while they crest a public safety threat every day. 4. That the McManis Faulkner law firm keeps representing clients like Peter Ortiz. Abusive , entitled and overfunded to misuse the courts. The firm once stood for the First Amendment. Now they just try to weaponize it for profit. The settlement of the dispute between Hugh Grant and the publisher of the Sun newspaper has been a hot topic in mainstream media over the past 48 hours. The coverage and outcome raises some interesting questions from a legal standpoint, particularly around Part 36 offers. In this overview, I outline what a Part 36 offer is, the possible cost consequences flowing from such an offer, and why parties use Part 36 offers in litigation. #HughGrant #litigation #Part36 #Part36offers #settlement
Following the dispute between Hugh Grant and the publisher of the Sun newspaper being settled outside of the courtroom, the actor’s social media posts have brought Part 36 offers into the spotlight. Rhys Thompson breaks down what Part 36 offers are and why parties use them https://lnkd.in/ec43Y-Qz

it seems we will not be able to remotely watch or listen to a donald j. trump criminal trial. one justification for this no video or audio rule is that the media circus in the courtroom would risk making a trial unfair. but why would the media be disrupting the courtroom just because of livecasting? couldn't the media just watch in another room if necessary? wouldn't it be the court, not the media, doing the livecasting? the court could order the media out if necessary, especially if there is any disruption in the courtroom. and one would think ordering the media to leave is even easier to justify if they could just watch elsewhere. does the analysis change if the trial is recorded but not simultaneously streamed for the public to watch or listen? the public record of this trial is so very important. it seems criminal (excuse that one) to forego recording that could be used to show the trial was fair, and for obvious historical reasons. will also make some epic tiktoks. https://lnkd.in/evHwjMSe
