Building the Infrastructure for the Climate Economy | MBA + City Planning '24 @ MIT | Sustainability, Real Estate & Economic Development
Honored to have participated in this panel facilitated by the incomparable Mackenson Charles of Black Economic Council of Massachusetts, Inc. ongside entrepreneurial and policy greats Joseph Charles and Segun Idowu. If we're serious about growing community-level wealth, then we have to include acquisitions of existing SMBs and real estate assets into the equation. Some resources: 1. Where to Access Funding?: The SBA7(a) Loan Program allows for the financing up to $5M for small business or commercial real estate acquisitions https://lnkd.in/eWU-7VsA 2. What is the Role of Local Policymakers?: Much can be learned from how the City of Boston has established its Commercial Assistance Fund to support ground level businesses in affordable housing developments. https://lnkd.in/ewph76Aj 3. What Happens If We Get This Right?: Brookings Institute has incredible research showing that providing more equitable opportunities is a net positive for our economy, creating significant levels of new jobs and tax revenues for municipalities. https://lnkd.in/edKS_N-U
Black Economic Council of Massachusetts, Inc. made waves last week, and I am honored to have contributed to its success. The 5th annual Mass Black Expo has come to an end, but the sense of black joy, newfound connections, and acquired knowledge will endure. I had the privilege of moderating multiple panel discussions, and this particular panel (pictured) was truly exceptional. To the panelists, Segun Idowu , Trace Allen and Joseph Charles thank you for engaging in an unfiltered and substantive conversation on business growth through acquisition. That was just a skim of the incredible curated experiences, thought-provoking panel discussions, and inspiring keynote speakers that graced the Expo. The BECMA team represented our community proudly, bringing together over a thousand individuals to tackle a crucial topic: Building Black Wealth! Read about it here 🗞️ https://lnkd.in/e_J_DPKn

Happy Black History Month! I highly recommended checking out #ForTheCultureSTL for the BEST directory of local Black owned businesses! https://lnkd.in/gf4YR2yy Via their website: "We do a lot of talking about supporting black businesses, but provide a number of reasons as to why we can't: I don't know where to go, I didn't know that they were black owned, I don't know where to start. Well, no more. ForTheCultureSTL is intended to connect black people with black owned businesses and events around the city. Whether it's the entertainment industry, a family owned restaurant, a black owned dentist, or a local clothing company, For the Culture STL is here to connect the people to you and you to the people. Our intention is to put black dollars back into the black community and keep them there and build unity in the community. Support the businesses, show up to the events, get to know each other. In order to do this we have to know where to go and what to show up for. If you know of any companies, events, stores, or small businesses that we should be supporting then let us know."

Trailblazers like O.W. Gurley and Madam C.J. Walker epitomized enterprise with their resourcefulness and relentless drive, laying the foundation for generations of Black entrepreneurs. Throughout this month, NABA Inc. has explored the pivotal role of education, earnings, and entrepreneurship in building Black wealth. Today, we celebrate the power of enterprise. Often described as enterprising, successful Black entrepreneurs not only achieve financial success but also uplift communities and inspire innovation against all odds. NABA members embody this enterprising spirit, too. Whether through participating in educational programs like CPA Bound and ACAP, networking at events like the National Convention & Expo, or fostering connections with associations like the Diverse Organization of Firms, you honor our ancestors' sacrifices. As we bid farewell to Black History Month, let us reflect on the legacy of those who paved the way and recommit ourselves to their vision. Though the racial wealth gap persists, our resolve to bridge it grows stronger. We are four steps closer, NABA Nation. Happy Black History Month!

I humanize businesses💡| 🇭🇹 | Founder | TEDx Speaker | Strategy & Operations | Currently building businesses & documenting it
You want to humanize your business? Craft community experiences that: → Inspire → Spark conversations → Expand said community. Curious? Skeptical? Let me share a secret: 🤫 In every role I've held, I always end up event coordinating. Why? I believe in curating tailored communities. Last October, as the event coordinator for the Montclair Chapter of NAACP, I created "Blackity Blackity Black Black." This event celebrated black talent, joy, businesses, ideas, and hope. I divided the event into sections embodying facets of Black culture. (Notes below!) The outcome: → People learned and talked. → People felt inspired & seen → People wanted more & the community grew Ready to infuse that spark into your business? Let's connect! 💬 P.S. What do you think about personalized community experiences? Comment below! 🤝
