The Crown Prince of Dubai announced that 22 Chief AI officers have been appointed to Dubai government entities in an effort to stay ahead of the AI race.
I commend this effort because I'm sure I'm not the only one who gets a bit uneasy when we think of government officials in the news try to navigate tech-related discussions. The more embedded technology becomes in society, the greater the need to have government entities / officials who have the knowledge and understanding of our fast-changing digital landscape. If you saw any of the META litigations, you know exactly what I’m talking about.
Seeing this news made me wonder, exactly what is *our* US government doing to adjust for this AI renaissance?
You’ll be happy to know we have our very own White House official website (AI.gov) with some interesting initiatives underway that kicked off as part of the Biden Administration executive order which went into effect in January 2024.
You can find the full list of initiatives on the website (https://ai.gov/actions/), but I’ve highlighted the few that caught my eye:
🚨 1. Blueprint for an AI Bill of Rights
This is a set of five principles and associated practices to help guide the design, use, and deployment of automated systems to protect the rights of the American public in the age of AI.
Currently, the five principles are:
1. Safe & Effective Systems
2. Algorithmic Discrimination
3. Data Privacy
4. Notice and Explanation
5. Human Alternatives, Considerations, and Fallbacks

🚨 2. NIST AI Risk Management Framework
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) AI Risk Management Framework was released on January 26th of this year. The framework was built to better manage risks to individuals, organizations, and society associated with AI.
Below you can find the NIST RM Framework, along with the corresponding ‘Play Book’ and ‘Road Map’ to help navigate your company's AI journey:

🚨 3. Company Commitments
The administration has secured voluntary commitments from leading AI companies to ensure safe and responsible AI development.
The initial seven companies are Amazon, Anthropic, Google, Inflection, Meta, Microsoft, and OpenAI. They were later joined by eight additional companies: Adobe, Cohere, IBM, Nvidia, Palantir, Salesforce, Scale AI, and Stability.
How are you thinking about AI risk and governance in your company?
