⛔️| Should Masks be Banned at Gaza Protests? Things got violent outside a Los Angeles orthodox synagogue on Sunday, leading the mayor at a Monday press conference to say that a ban on wearing masks to such protests should be considered. A number of the pro-Palestinian protestors Sunday, who blocked entrance to the synagogue and ended up in fistfights and spraying Bear spray at those attending synagogue, wore masks. Without making a specific proposal, Mayor Karen Bass said that the city should consider the issue — including "the idea of people wearing masks at protests." https://lnkd.in/gBZ8bfDc

To understand more fully the nature of protests, we need to ask why communities protest in the first place, and why other means of engagement have been ineffective. It is also necessary to question why protests are often met with a violent state response.

I am distraught by these protests. The cancel Christmas rallies on public streets, in public places and on private property have frequently and repeatedly descended into rallies that peddle hatred, support racism, and intolerance. Additionally, they disturb the peace, interfere with the operations of private businesses and public infrastructure. Such protests also cost Canadian taxpayers dearly given the need for significant policing. These specific series of cancel Xmas protests planned across Canada have been organized by a group called the Palestinian Youth Movement. This group "openly seeks the destruction of Israel and was a vocal supporter of the Hamas-orchestrated civilian massacres on October 7th...." as reported in this article. In my personal opinion, one may openly support political causes but not at the expense of peace, order, respect and tolerance of our fellow citizens. Freedom of assembly is a charter protected right. However, where protests call for uprisings in Canada related to events abroad, which include, chanting, signage, and speeches that serve to cultivate hate, sow division, support the destruction of property, and put others at risk of physical harm, the merits of the cause gets drowned out and lost. Is this what the Charter of Rights and Freedoms is meant to protect in Canada? #publicsafety #Charter #freedomofexpression

Freedom of expression is supposed to end where incitement to violence begins. It's time for the Canadian authorities to stop being so "feel-good-naive" and start enforcing the law on inciters (hate groups) disrupting peaceful Canadian society, while calling for the destruction of an entire country and people (the lone Jewish state), with real fall-out for Canadians trying to go about their daily business. All the warning signs are flashing of future danger and violence in Canada: target lists of Jewish institutions; shots fired and Molotov cocktails thrown at Jewish schools, synagogues and community centers; spray-painting and vandalism of Jewish-owned businesses; cowardly and dishonest Canadian national media that will not describe the October 7th massacre as "terrorism"; the malevolent disruption of unrelated events like Christmas celebrations. It's incumbent upon everyone to speak out against the ever-increasing radicalization of "pro-Palestinian protests", which are actually pro-Hamas-terror and blatantly anti-semitic. Not a single sign at these protests displays "Peace Now"; "Free the hostages"; or even the now-fantasy "Two-state-solution." The chants, signs and slogans are ugly and hate-filled. If anti-Zionism isn't anti-Semitism, why, when Israel is brutally attacked and is at war to defend her people and sovereignty, are attacks unleashed on Jews and Jewish institutions worldwide?
