The newest joint guidance from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and The Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC) has been published: Survivorship care for people affected by advanced or metastatic cancer: MASCC-ASCO standards and practice recommendations. The below standards of care were identified in the research: Standard 1: person-centered care Standard 2: coordinated and integrated care Standard 3: evidence-based and comprehensive care Standard 4: evaluated and communicated care Standard 6: sustainable and resourced care Standard 5: accessible and equitable care Standard 7: research and data-driven care All cancer survivorship care should encapsulate these standards. The pandemic drove a huge shift in the direction of research and care services. To keep people safe, it became increasingly more difficult to see a doctor, which ultimately worsened the outcomes of cancer patients around the globe. This also created a backlog that still impacts patients today. Governmental plans addressing cancer care on both a national and international level could help countries address this backlog. By ensuring cancer care is a priority, we can prevent further decline in the speed and quality of care.
