It is vital for the long-term success of the places we design to create spaces that will grow and flourish alongside the community that use them. One project that has fulfilled this ambition is Moortown Park in #Leeds, which recently won the Public Realm and Landscape category at the #Leeds Architecture Awards 2023 (#LAA2023)   This video, produced by Addictive Media, captures how the transformation of this former corporate sports field (delivered on behalf of Leeds City Council following a community campaign led by Friends of Moortown Park) into a new seven-acre community green space, has had an incredible impact on people of all ages.   Early on in the design process, we recognised that this would need to be a space that could evolve and be shaped by the people who live here. With this in mind, we strengthened the existing woodlands and meadow habitats to offered the community even more opportunities to experience nature.    The sloping site created fantastic opportunities for play, offering a place for families to come together and giving children the freedom to explore the landscape in a safe space. New dog walking paths and play areas sit alongside a deep woodland corridor, meadows and a small wetland area.   The judges said: “This is an example of a well-designed (but not over-designed) flourishing and well-used urban park, which will only get better in future years.”   For us, the most rewarding part of this project is seeing the community take ownership of the park; local people and volunteers, led by Friends of Moortown park, now have a sense of stewardship and are working together to ensure #MoortownPark is constantly evolving, just as we’d envisaged. #Landscapearchitect #landscapearchitecture #publicpark #communitygreenspace #publicrealmdesign  

Another exceptional project completed with McCorkell Constructions, scope of works included - 10,000m3 of cut - 8,000m2 of cement stabilisation (proposed in order to eliminate over 3,000m3 of subgrade improvement) - 5,500m2 of building pad preparation - 13,000m2 of asphalt pavements (netball courts and footpaths) - 2,300m2 of exposed concrete pavement - 1,400lin.m of kerbing and edge strip

Birmingham City Council's Planning Committee meets a week today on 28 September 2023 with a packed agenda that features two applications further to the redevelopment of Aston Villa's Villa Park, both recommended for approval with conditions. Item 13 (page 228) is a s73 application to facilitate external amendments to the facade to allow for the insertion of an internal mezzanine into the North Stand (for use as a shop and to provide a F&B offer), repositioning of Villa Live, and other associated works, and rewording of numerous conditions to enable the independent construction and occupation of these buildings. Item 14 (page 245) is a full application relating to the warehouse buildings, also known as 'The Stumps'. The proposals comprise partial demolition of the former Academy building, external alterations and refurbishment of remaining bays for use as a multi-purpose community and events space and associated food/beverage offer, with ancillary offices, public realm, car and cycle parking, OB compound and associated works. An 11-acre park being constructed as a deck capping I-95 will connect Philadelphia to the Delaware River waterfront #Pennslanding. 200 South Broad Street, a 885,365 sf project, is converting an office building into apartments, sports club, rooftop skating rink, coworking space, and a hotel #thebellevue. A 23-story mixed-use office/287-unit apartment under construction on a challenging property fronting the Schuylkill River proves that even the most challenging of waterfront urban sites can be redeveloped #2301johnfkennedyblvd.
