"I am Preservation" with Andrew Thomas As we celebrate our 50th anniversary we are highlighting a video series called "I am Preservation" to exhibit the widespread love of landmarks throughout the City. Please join in the celebration and send us your video. We will post clips throughout the rest of the year on our many social media platforms. TIPS for making your own "I am Preservation" video. Say your name, and if you like, the neighborhood that you live in. Briefly comment on what you love about New York City landmarks or a specific historic building, place, or structure. And, finish by saying “I am Preservation!” Film in landscape mode (hold smartphone horizontally) If you can’t film yourself, maybe have a friend film you in front of a landmark or your favorite historic building or structure. Be aware of your surroundings (street-level noise, etc.) Check your lighting. If possible, you don’t want to be in an area that is too dark or too bright. Set up your shot (minimize things that might be distracting on screen) We are looking for short clips. Thirty seconds at maximum. Make eye contact, don’t forget to smile. I had the privilege of listening to Matt Francis speaking at the Border Kei Chamber of Business AGM yesterday. As a professional with a science and engineering education, he hooked me with a formula as he started, and then locked me in with a discussion on the speed of light! Formula : Performance = Trained Ability + Experience - Interference Simple stuff. A 12 year old will understand that to improve Performance, simply increase ability and experience, and reduce Interference. The first two are doable. The big challenge is how to identify and deal with the interference. That's where the discussion on light kicked in. Pointing out that any image we see of ourselves is always in the past he helped us understand the importance of reflection giving us a dynamic image, over obsessing over a static image (usually stuck in the past somewhere). Reflection helps us make changes and adjustments to be better. Obsession often pulls us into negative states. Wrapping up he shared 3 questions to ask on a daily basis, as a way of keeping in front of the mirror of reflection: 1 - What am I proud of achieving today? 2 - What can I do better? 3 - What am I going to forget? I work with oil paints on canvas. I don't use prints or any other materials besides oil paints, acrylics, solvents, brushes or palette knives. I work in several styles. One of them is glitch art, similar to 3D. - The beginning of this style was a painting calling"Deja vu", which was painted in 2020 before the start of quarantine. Because of this I started the beginning of the new collection "Deja vu, glitch art". It perfectly characterizes my transition from realism to conceptual painting, to paintings in which I put more meaning with the help of various effects that help to reveal my ideas more deeply. The presented artwork is a catalyst for answering the question “what is deja vu to us? How do we feel about this condition? ” With the help of glitch-art, the effect of altered reality was achieved, a sense of doubling, which is a sign of disorientation in the time characteristic of déjà vu. I tried to learn what is the cause of the Déjà vu effect. After reading some of articles, scientific works, publications and even just theories, I am inclined to the idea that our mind during the Déjà vu effect is similar to the glitch effect - the hemispheres of the brain are desynchronized and receive information with a delay, which makes us think that we have seen the future, but in fact, we see a present that has come to us with a delay. Observing the thought processes and behavior of people can give us an incredible amount of useful information, including allowing a better understanding of ourselves. The second is drawings that blend into the background and flow into orange strokes. - Using dynamic and static effects (brushstroke, local color) to reflect the inner state of a person and his or her character. The idea of metamorphosis (transferring one form of image to another), the object of which in this artwork is a person who was originally nature, air. The idea of metamorphosis is based on the philosophy of anthropomorphism, the likening of anything that is not human to a human being or the transfer of his or her physical and intellectual properties to creatures, things, and phenomena of the world around us. It is common for people to embody certain phenomena in an image that is close to them, in the image of a person. The main task of the idea is to associate the universe, nature, earth, and air through the structure of the human body.

An open letter to say THANK YOU to the (objective) foundations of our homes: THE BRICKLAYERS Your technical expertise and dedication as bricklayers have provided strong and sturdy foundation, essential for the stability and longevity of a house. Your craftsmanship and attention to detail should never go unnoticed, and we are truly grateful for the care and precision with which you execute every aspect of the job. Your work goes far beyond simply laying bricks; you have played an integral role in creating a safe and comfortable environment for everyone to call home. Your commitment to excellence and willingness to study and adapt to new techniques and technologies is what has allowed most people to have a better space to live in generation after generation. UK's traditional buildings are much different from new builds but a bricklayer was needed back then and is needed now. You have been a constant of our society and the role you play is pivotal to make sure society keeps thriving by giving them a safe and adequate space to be in (at home, at work or any other construction). We are simplifying but... Those who make bricks would be nothing without the fundamental skills you have. Thank you once again for being the foundations of our homes. Over 300 designs, endless hours, zero reward? Discover how I'm turning a creativity crisis into a game-changer this year... Last year, my creativity was expressed through the creation of 300 bespoke clothing designs — each one expressed my passion and dedication. However, it seems that excessive productivity may have its drawbacks. An alarmingly high number of these designs - around 200, to be precise - were left unchosen by clients. The fact that the majority of these sketches were given away pro bono to potential clients only added insult to injury. As the year concluded, I found myself questioning the trajectory of my creative process. Taking stock of the situation, I've resolved to implement two fundamental changes in the year ahead: 1) I will no longer provide free designs. The time, effort, and creativity that goes into each piece are valuable, and it is only fair that it be recognized and compensated as such. 2) I will put a limit on the number of designs I present to clients. Instead of overwhelming clients with options, I will focus on delivering a curated selection of high-quality designs. With these changes, I hope to reshape my creative process to be more strategic, impactful, and rewarding. I would appreciate your feedback on this approach.
