This is the next race Europe is going to lose. It is Quantum Computing. Those who win the quantum race own the data streams of the world. Owning the data streams of the world means owning the ... Mixing and leading in both, AI and Quantum, is.....(US), leading in combustion engines and carbon industries (Germany) is... 2025 to 2035 will be the decade of quantum moving from R&D to adoption. This decade will be absolutely critical for governments and industries and the issue of sovereignty will be very important during this period. The US is the clear frontrunner in the quantum race. Europe’s private investment landscape is weaker compared to the US, when it comes to both startups and established companies. Europe has France, Germany and the Netherlands trying to build quantum networks [in isolation], and therefore Europe might not have enough for a real network. France’s plans are very focused on investing in the technologies, whereas Germany’s plans are more practical and focused on the use cases — but there is no connection to bring these together. Europe has a well-known deeptech scaling problem. This is why Europe has lost the AI race and will probably lose quantum as well. #quantumtechnology #deeptech #eu

Over the last two years, we have substantially extended our work on #Hamiltonianlearning of #superconducting quantum chips. We have made substantial method development in the meantime, such as introducing the superresolution method TensorEsprit, to make it all actually work in practice for noisy data from Google AI Quantum Sycamore chips, have added a great author (Jonáš Fuksa) and have included a lot more data for intermediate-scale chips - to precisely learn and calibrate #analogquantumsimulators. Only equipped with such tools, analog quantum simulators will eventually have the predictive power we strive for. We have now submitted our work, but will update our manuscript https://lnkd.in/ebFSnnWz on the arXiv only after the xmas break.

A fascinating interview with Jensen Huang. Speaking to a standing-room-only audience at the 2024 SIEPR Economic Summit, Huang predicted that in as little as five years, AI will be able to pass every test a human takes — not just the legal bar exams that it can complete today but also highly specialized medical licensing exams. In about ten years, he said, the computational capabilities of AI systems will be a million times bigger than they are today. Systems synthetically generating data will have a greater capacity to continuously learn, infer, and imagine. Instead of only instantly answering questions, forthcoming AI systems will also be able to think critically through problems over extended periods. When asked his advice for Stanford students aspiring to be successful entrepreneurs, Huang talked about the importance of low expectations and high resilience. Greatness, he said, comes from smart people who have suffered from setbacks.
