Friday Job Search Bites The season of your job search is not time, it's a person you need to know. What does that mean? It means there is a person you need to know who will help you get hired Don't focus on finding a job, focus on finding that person who has the job. You can waste days and weeks applying online to jobs where you are just one more resume in the stack, or, you can maximize your time. You maximize your time by finding someone either here on Linkedin or thru contacts you and others you know have that get you to the front of the line. Who wants to get cold called? The reason why is that most of what people say at first on their resumes is the same slick wording that they see over and over, and they don't buy it. But, if the person doing screening and or hiring gets a referral from someone they know why says "take a look at this one for the XXX job, I think it looks good", it doesn't go in the stack it goes to the top of the stack. EVERYBODY YOU KNOW NEEDS TO KNOW CLEARLY 2 THINGS ABOUT YOU: They need to know in plain terms what you kind of job you want They need to know briefly some of what your accomplishments have been That lets these people you contact for help in your search know 2 things It lets them focus their thinking on they know who may be looking for what you do, and, it gives them some information they can relay to others briefly about why your worthy of their time. Connect with me here and let me give you a foundational message in your words to others that will get you to that person you need to know. #Linkedin #jobsearch #networking

Frustrated with your job search? Finding a new role is very difficult at the moment. And I completely understand how hard this must be. We're talking to 100's of job seekers each week and some of the stories have been truly awful. Some are losing their homes, families cannot afford simple necessities, and are left with no alternatives to survive. We have supported candidates all through the pandemic to what was a candidate market into the employers market we see today. The best advice I can give at the moment is to stay persistent and positive. Is this going to pay your bills now? Absolutely not! This main pain point is still going to be there unfortunately. But it can help keep you going until you find something. In the meantime ensure you try these 3 Tips below: Tip #1. Make sure your LinkedIn headline and Personal Statement on your CV grab the attention of readers by using this simple format: I'm an XYZ Leader, Manager, or Analyst with XYZ years of experience delivering XYZ resulting in XYZ outcome. Tip #2. Your job search strategy needs to include networking. If you see a role advertised be sure to find contacts for people that work there and try to get a referral. This is what's working best at the moment. Tip #3. You must tailor your CV and Cover Letter to the jobs you are applying to. Companies can spot generic applications and will ignore them immediately. Look at the JD for the role find the top 3 skills that resonate well with your experience and make sure that's visible in your application. Keep applying, keep chasing, and remember all it takes is one interview or application for you to be back doing what you love. #jobseekers #lookingforwork #wednesdaywisdom #jobsearchtips

Are you using the Rule of Three to accelerate your job search? Most job seekers aren’t, and they could be missing most of the best opportunities. The Rule of Three was originally put forward by Aristotle. His idea was that we struggle to remember more than three things at a time. It’s been used for centuries in everything from writing books and speeches to sales and marketing. You can apply it to ramp up your chances of finding the role you’re looking for and shorten the time that will take. There are three main channels to finding that great next role. Most of the job seekers you’re competing with focus on one, or at best, two of them. Here’s a rough guide to how many jobs are usually found through each channel. The numbers can move around a bit depending on conditions in your specific market, but this is a good basis for planning your campaign: · Advertised job postings (visible): 10% - 15% · Recruitment agencies (some visible, some not): 10% - 15% · Networking (hidden): 70% This means if you’ve found 3 advertised roles, there are potentially 6 or 7 you haven’t discovered yet. Interested in finding out how to use the power of the Rule of Three to shorten your time to landing? DM me. #gavinlister #controlyourcareer #hiddenjobmarket
