Volunteering in Singapore for a cause that can truly benefit from your expertise is actually harder than it seems. I found: "Could volunteering be your New Year's resolution?". For many years I tried then gave up and now do this myself by offering people who have been laid off or are in between jobs free guidance and advice on how to get a job through LinkedIn for free. I offered this same free service to charities and none took up my offer. I've had a few open minded organisations take up my offer to conduct a free LinkedIn masterclass to help the Non-Profit raise awareness, find volunteers and generate donations and sponsorship which has been very rewarding all round. But I'd like to do more. It's all very well helping in a kitchen and distributing food to the needy or clean beaches but that's the equivalent of giving someone a fish rather than teaching them how to fish. It also doesn't tap into my experience and expertise on Personal Branding and LinkedIn Marketing. So I'd rather give that away to people who truly need it instead. Effectively it's a free volunteer service that I provide in this context and I let people know that it's available through LinkedIn and find it very rewarding helping people get new jobs. I've recently stumbled across an interesting article from Forbes on trends related to Employee Giving and Corporate Volunteering for 2024. It is definitely worth reading providing some valuable insights on this relevant topic. Through employee giving programs companies have found innovative ways to engage their workforce and make a difference in their communities. Two trends have been especially encouraging: 🔍 a) Skill-based volunteering that enables employees to share their professional skills and time with nonprofits and communities, amplifying the social impact of their contributions. In 2024, a surge in skills-based volunteering programs is expected. 📈 b) Collaborative Corporate Partnerships are perceived as another practice becoming a key driver for corporate volunteering programs. More companies will team up or create partnerships with NGOs to tackle social issues collectively. Partnerships between businesses will amplify their giving power and encourage cross-industry collaboration to address pressing global challenges. 🤝 Both aspects are considered under our YouthCan!
