Maybe you’ve heard about United Way of Anchorage’s Community Campaign and are wondering Why should I give to United Way? Good question. I am glad you asked. People who supported United Way in 2023 empowered us to: * Connect Alaskans to available services, using Alaska 211. * Assist families with healthcare and insurance, thanks to our healthcare navigators. * Support students as they prepare to become our community’s workforce and leaders. * Innovate solutions to ensure homelessness becomes rare, brief and one-time. * Convene people with unique backgrounds and diverse lived experiences. * Seek advice on our Community Impact Agenda and inform our 2024 strategies. * Host sessions to gather community members’ insights on tough challenges. We want to keep doing the work you’ve entrusted us with…and hope to do more. We’re trying to raise $4M during our 2023 Community Campaign to meet our goal, AND we need you.

I am thrilled to announce the arrival of the WBG Community Facebook page, a space that has been diligently crafted with a singular purpose in mind: to extend a helping hand to our homeless population. After months of careful planning, our team has successfully created a virtual community that aims to provide support, resources, and assistance to those who find themselves without a stable home. In our fast-paced digital age, social media platforms have become incredibly powerful tools, connecting people from all walks of life. Recognizing this immense potential, we sought to harness the reach and accessibility of Facebook to establish a dedicated space tailored specifically for the homeless community. Our primary objective is to bridge the gap between society and those experiencing homelessness, promoting compassion and understanding through open dialogue, sharing of experiences, and provision of valuable resources. Within the WBG Community Facebook page, members can find a plethora of information pertaining to essential services, such as access to shelters, meal programs, employment opportunities, and healthcare options. Through uploaded posts, we strive to generate conversations that shed light on the challenges faced by the homeless, dispelling misconceptions and fostering empathy among our followers. Additionally, we encourage members to share their own stories, experiences, and insights, creating a vibrant and supportive network where individuals facing homelessness can find solace in camaraderie and genuine human connection. By utilizing the expansive reach of Facebook, our hope is that the WBG Community Facebook page will become a beacon of hope and empowerment for those experiencing homelessness. Through this platform, we aspire to not only provide essential information but also cultivate a community that uplifts, inspires, and advocates for change. With every post shared, every comment made, and every resource offered, we strive to create a tangible impact on the lives of those who may feel marginalized and forgotten. In conclusion, the arrival of the WBG Community Facebook page symbolizes a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to help the homeless. We firmly believe that no human being should ever be without a place to call home, and it is our heartfelt mission to address this issue head-on. Together, let us forge a virtual space that truly makes a difference, extending compassion, aid, and support to those in need. #community #facebook #homeless #jacksonville https://lnkd.in/emgv3Di2

Just walked past a community shelter and it struck me—how do we truly open our hearts and spaces to those without a home? 🏠💡 In the UK, homelessness isn't just a statistic; it's a reality for thousands, and the need for inclusive communities is more pressing than ever. Here are some thoughts on creating spaces that welcome everyone: 👉 Start with empathy: Understanding the challenges faced by the homeless is the first step. Let's engage in conversations, listen to their stories, and build from a place of compassion. 👉 Collaboration is key: Partnering with local businesses, charities, and government bodies can lead to innovative solutions. Whether it's converting unused buildings into shelters or providing job training, it's about pooling resources for the greater good. 👉 Sustainability matters: Temporary fixes aren't enough. We need to think long-term—affordable housing, mental health support, and pathways to employment are crucial in helping individuals regain their independence. 👉 It's about community: Inclusive communities mean everyone has a role to play. From volunteering at soup kitchens to mentorship programs, every action counts. 👉 Don't forget the youth: Homeless young people need education and support to break the cycle. Let's invest in their futures. We can all contribute to a society where no one has to call the streets their home. Share your ideas, get involved, and let's make a difference together. 🤝 #Homelessness #CommunitySupport #InclusiveSociety #vetrorecruitment #vetro

Homelessness exposes them to numerous risks, including physical and mental health issues, exploitation, and substance abuse. Secondly, addressing youth homelessness ensures that the next generation has access to education and employment opportunities, breaking the cycle of poverty. Moreover, it reduces the burden on social services and healthcare systems, saving resources in the long run. Lastly, it is a moral imperative to provide support and care for vulnerable young individuals, fostering a compassionate and inclusive society for all. So time to get yourself signed up! #EndYouthHomelessness #Charity #QuizTime

Good intentions can only go so far. Local nonprofits and government-funded agencies can unintentionally contribute to systems of harm by creating power imbalances, crowding out local services, mismanaging resources, overlooking risks, and lacking coordination with local stakeholders. To avoid these issues, they should engage in inclusive, context-aware practices and collaborate closely with local communities. San Francisco is home to a large variety of non-profits, agencies, offices, and departments with their own unique cultures and values. All 30,722 of them seem to be uniformly aligned in focusing on “marginalized people”. Do you ever wonder why, in a city that boasts tolerance and inclusivity as well as a variety of resources, there are still so many people suffering? Is anyone collecting data on the level of success or effectiveness these efforts are having? Do you notice any patterns? https://lnkd.in/gDEEB8m3 #inclusion #equity #collaboration #communityengagement #beyondblackandwhite

Today, the Executive Club team dedicated their time to the Ace of Clubs homeless shelter, embodying the spirit of community and compassion. It's moments like these that remind us of the collective power we hold. Each helping hand, each shared meal, and every moment spent listening to those with lived experiences of homelessness, brings us closer to understanding and action. We believe that if more individuals and organisations took a moment to step into the world of volunteering, the impact on homelessness could be profound. It's not just about one day or one act of service; it's about fostering a continuous commitment to support the most vulnerable in our society. Our aim at the Executive Club goes beyond business success; it's about building a legacy of giving back, creating ripples of change that extend far beyond our immediate circle. Let's use our networks not just for growth, but for goodwill. We're proud of the work done today and inspired to keep this momentum going. Together, we can be the keystones of change in our community. #ExecutiveClubCares #CommunityService #SocialImpact #Volunteering #HomelessnessAwareness #GiveBack

Giving Compass recently shared an article from Cecilia A. Conrad, CEO of Lever for Change, on changing the way we give so that grassroots organizations have easier access to the funding they need. Conrad suggests changing the traditional model of funding by taking risks and shifting power dynamics. Read the full article below for more ways Conrad recommends donors do things differently. #ChangingtheWayWeGive #BuildingEquity #ReimagineGiving
"Currently, the average grant from large U.S. foundations is $50,000 and recipients have about 18 months to deliver successful results. Imagine trying to solve racial inequity or homelessness in your community with $50,000 in a year and a half. It’s time for a new business model." Global Generosity Movement Tuesday November 28, 2023 is a day to focus on ways to contribute to our communities and improve lives of others. HMSHost @ Toronto Pearson YYZ have an annual Warm Weather Drive in support of our Homeless Youth in Peel Region. We donate coats, gloves, hats, blankets , sweaters, boots and socks to "Our Place Peel". As our cold weather months approach and pressure on affordable housing and shelters our donations will make a difference. A few years ago I rehired an associate who had faced homelessness and had lost his toes from frostbite- our goal is to help the youth and support them during challenging times. Everyone Counts - a Community Report noted the following statistics. ( Peel) 27% of respondents indicated they first experienced homelessness as a youth. 6% of respondents indicated they first experienced homelessness as a child. "Homelessness is often the result of what are known as systemic or societal barriers including a lack of affordable and appropriate housing. the individual/households financial, mental, cognitive, behavioural or physical challenges, and/or racism and discrimination". It is with great honor and humility that I write we are committed to supporting communities all around the world. We are Change Makers ! #Avolta #HMShost #givingtuesday #journeyon #changemakers
