FIELD UPDATE: Our team on the ground in Spencer, IA, is distributing supplies and assisting with clean up and pet rescue efforts alongside local partners like People for Pets Shelter and Humane Society of Northwest Iowa. Today, we helped People for Pets Shelter rescue a cat and dog who had been alone in their home in the evacuation zone since Saturday. They were scared, hungry and dehydrated, but we got them safely into kennels and transported to the shelter to be reunited with their family. Our VP of Field Operations Laura Littlebear explains the scene on the ground: “Due to the quick and severe nature of the flooding, many residents were forced to leave their pets behind. Fortunately, our partners rapidly responded to help bring them to safety. It is difficult to describe the horrific damage the flooding caused. Everyone’s belongings are in their yards as water is being pumped out of homes. The recovery effort is just beginning and there’s a long road ahead.” Greater Good Charities will be there to assist on this road to recovery. We are grateful for the opportunity to help the people and pets of this community. #DisasterRelief #AmplifyTheGood

There is nothing worse than seeing pets confused looking for their masters after a disaster and you know the pet’s family is worried about them as well. Here are some ways to be prepared and protect you and your fur baby(s): - Most importantly, have a plan of where your pet is going to go if something happens. Most shelters do not take pets only service animals - Have a kennel and get them use to using a kennel if they are not - Have extra food, a leash, special toy and treats in the kennel - When doing family drills include your pets - Have the pets information including chip info, vet, medical issues, any other information written and stored online Interested in contributing to the safety of your fur babies and local community? This is who we adopted our dog from over a year ago. They are wonderful people and need help rebuilding their shelter. Please read below. Urgent Support Needed After Shelter Fire – All Humans and Animals Safe! On November 4th, one of our worst fears was realized. An electrical fire caused by a short in our Oncor meter broke out in our kennel. Thanks to the quick actions of our staff and Seogoville Fire Department, we are relieved to be able to report all humans and animals are safe. That said, our shelter has suffered devastating damage that has left us in dire need of your support. Oncor will replace the meter however OHAR will be responsible for repairing wiring, copper, drywall, replacing the damaged equipment and food, and more. The Fire Marshall has “red-tagged” our kennels resulting in the temporary suspension of power and water until city inspectors greenlight the repairs. This process is expected to take several days and additional costs will be incurred as extra resources are needed to care for the animals during this time. At present, the identified repair expenses for just the electricians stand at $10,000 and will increase. It’s safe to say that this unexpected cost has caught us unprepared, and we are in urgent need of assistance. Your generous donations can make a significant difference in our ability to recover and provide for the animals that rely on us. Can you help? Here’s how: Financial Contributions. Your monetary donation, no matter how big or small, will go a long way in helping us restore our shelter and continue to provide a safe and loving environment for our animal residents. You can donate securely: On our website at ohar.org/donations. Your information is never shared or compromised as we are 100% PCI Compliant and encryption is guaranteed. PayPal at info@ohar.org For those who’d rather mail donations, our mailing address is Post Office Box 367 – Seagoville, TX 75159. Share Our Story: Spread the word about our situation on social media, among your friends, family, and colleagues. The more people are aware of our plight, the more help we can garner. Become a Temporary Foster: As traumatic as the fire has been for our animals, the noise and chaos of the repairs that need to occur will no doubt cause them additional stress. Bringing one of our animals into your home on a temporary basis while we recover from the fire would mean the world to that animal and help them overcome the trauma. Please know, any help you can give will be greatly appreciated. Your kindness and support during this difficult time mean the world to us and to the animals who rely on our care. We thank you for your compassion and generosity. Together, we can rise from the ashes and continue to provide a safe haven for the animals. Warm regards, Bettye & Jim

To accomplish his mission, Cristian plans to film in all 50 states for a minimum of 45 days to create a one-hour film for each state. We are hoping to secure ongoing sponsorship for the 50-state project.
Filming cats & dogs seeking help to get off the streets is crucial for several reasons. Firstly, it raises awareness about the plight of stray cats, highlighting their need for assistance and safe shelter. Secondly, these videos can attract the attention of animal rescue organizations and potential adopters, increasing the chances of these pets finding permanent homes. Additionally, sharing such footage on social media can generate community support and resources for rescue efforts, creating a network of compassionate individuals ready to help. Ultimately, documenting these cats & dogs struggles can drive meaningful action, ensuring they receive the care and protection they deserve. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation. FIELD UPDATE: Greater Good Charities is now en route to Spencer, Iowa, to respond to the catastrophic flash flooding that has resulted from days of unprecedented rainfall, pushing rivers to record levels across northwest Iowa. A broken levee has forced hundreds to evacuate from their homes, and now South Dakota and Minnesota residents face similar dire circumstances. Some towns inundated with flooding have turned off power, prompting water safety concerns, sewage issues and health concerns caused by the sweltering temperatures. Our team on the ground in Spencer will assess need and assist local partners with Good Packs containing hygiene supplies, comfort items and pet essentials for displaced families. We’re also mobilizing shipments of pet food and supplies to assist animal shelters caring for lost pets and shelter pets moved out of evacuation zones. As we respond to this new dire need, we need YOU. Please donate to send aid to your neighbors impacted by severe flooding in the upper Midwest: https://hubs.ly/Q02CXD5n0 #DisasterRelief #AmplifyTheGood

As April marks National Stress Awareness Month, we want to shed light on the immense challenges faced by front-line rescue workers. The theme for 2024 is #LittleByLittle, which highlights the transformative impact of consistent, small positive actions can have. Recently, we introduced you to Oriana Samuelsen, a firefighter whose journey took her from the highways of Washington State to the streets of Iraq, where she encountered the brave street dog, Big Girl, and her pack. Oriana's journey led her to WarPaws, where she continues to care for these vulnerable animals, despite the inevitable heartaches. Witnessing cruelty and neglect takes its toll, compounded by the constant financial struggles of running an animal rescue shelter. However, through awareness and support, we can make a difference. Ultimately, the work of small rescue groups and charities is about more than just saving individual dogs. It's about creating a world in which animals are valued and respected and in which their welfare is protected. We believe that by working together and supporting these organisations, we can make this vision a reality and create a better world for all animals. If you're looking for a way to make a difference, consider donating to The Power of One today. Your support can help us continue to provide vital resources and support for the amazing rescue workers. Donate here: https://shor.by/d62v Together, we can make a world of difference, one small step at a time. 🐾 #PowerOfOne #StressAwarenessMonth #LittleByLittle #AnimalWelfare #RescueHeroes #WarPaws
