As a food safety auditor, I received the ultimate compliment the other day, and I’m not sure the auditee even realized how much his words impacted me…. In the closing meeting, management began to « risk assess » my evaluation, and debate the issues that I had warranted nonconformances. As I began to coorborate with evidence, the QA Manager jumped in and used a metaphor of an eye exam. He explained, « She’s right, I agree with her. On the inspection, she pointed out the issues and we discussed, and honestly it was like I was at the eye doctor and could finally see. I didn’t realize how bad it was until she gave me the tools to see! » I post this so I won’t forget his words. So I can use them as inspiration on a rough day. I post this to provide motivation for my peers. I post this for all the QA Managers out there who are afraid to ask for help, or who aren’t given the tools they need. Don’t be afraid to ask. To demand. Because we can all use a little re-calibration from time to time. And we’re all in this industry for the same reason. To keep the consumer safe.
