Most recent article from our team as part of our NIA funded DSM-H R01 study. This is one of the first collecting data directly from racially and ethnically diverse persons living with dementia and their care partners receiving home healthcare. One key here is just how high the symptom burden is in this population...on average 5.4 neuropsychiatric symptoms. A lot of work to do to help this population. If you work for a home health agency and would like to learn how to implement Aliviado Health's QAPI program to improve symptom management and support for persons living with dementia and their care partners, please reach out!!! #homehealthcare #homehealthagency #homehealthcareservices #dementiacare #dementiasupport
We're proud to share the release of our most recent publication in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society (JAGS)! Led by our fantastic former postdoc Rebecca Lassell who is as of Aug 1 an Assistant Professor at Indiana University School of Public Health-Bloomington. This article, coming from our National Institute on Aging (NIA) funded DSM-H Trial, found that persons living with dementia receiving home healthcare have high neuropsychiatric symptom burden such as agitation or wandering (much more so than in the general population). Therefore home health agencies have the opportunity to significantly improve care and quality of life for this population. If you work in #homehealthcare, reach out to talk to us about implementing our evidence-based quality improvement program to address neuropsychiatric symptoms. Can significantly improve the care you provide driving patient/caregiver satisfaction and referrals!!!

For older adults, maintaining optimal mobility and physical function is a priority. Benefits of a more active lifestyle include reduced risk of mortality and morbidity, fall prevention, enhanced functional capacity, and better managed chronic conditions. The APTA Geriatrics, An Academy of the American Physical Therapy Association recommends older adults have an annual visit with a physical therapist. But, preventative visits in physical therapy are not routine. Lieberz's study will test the feasibility of implementing a preventative physical therapy visit, particularly as older adults start seeing subtle changes in activity. This research will highlight and help categorize the underserved population of older adults with declining mobility. Studying patients who have had preventative physical therapy visits will establish a foundation for future research about the effectiveness of preventative treatment. 🚑 How Mobile Hospital Teams Are Transforming Patient Care at Home! 🌟 Providing care to patients through mobile hospital teams and home care is an innovative approach that offers a more fulfilling patient experience. 🩺 Patients requiring specialized care, such as those with internal medicine or infectious disease conditions, can receive treatment in their homes instead of being hospitalized, thanks to the use of digital tools and collaboration across different healthcare providers, the primary care system, and the patient's family network. This approach has allowed home care to expand its scope to encompass psychiatry and palliative care, among other fields. 👉 Benefit to Patient includes increased physical activity, enhanced comfort and security in their own homes, and better sleep and appetite. 👉 By delivering care to patients in their own homes, healthcare providers can gain a more comprehensive understanding of their patients' needs and provide a more holistic approach to their care. Get in contact with Skåne Care to know more about how to implement home care in your own context. #patientexperience #homecare #healthcare #prevention #mobilehospital

Managing caregiver relationships as a competency Why it’s important Family caregivers go by a lot of names, and whether you call them family caregivers, carers or care partners, they play an essential role in our health care system. Our health care teams will find themselves interacting with them and needing them more and more in the months and years to come. Just as physician practices have adapted to work more effectively with multidisciplinary teams, they must also prepare to accommodate the presence of, and appreciate the role of, family caregivers. Enter the Caregiver-Centered Care Competency Framework and Education for Health Providers to Support Family Caregivers. The framework emphasizes the competencies that health workforce must acquire to establish and maintain relational skills, such as communication, collaboration, partnering with and engaging family caregivers to help them not only to sustain care but also to maintain their own health and well-being. Dr. Jasneet Parmar, a Care of the Elderly physician with the Edmonton zone Specialized Geriatrics Program, as well as a professor with the U of A Department of Family Medicine, was the lead author on the framework. https://lnkd.in/gfJsv4uy

While early detection for cognitive impairment has never been more important, the battle to achieve it has never been more complex. BrainCheck eliminates the burden of outdated paper-based tests, offering a more modern approach to cognitive assessments. 🧠 Hear how Dr Bruce Lowell is using our technology to support early detection of cognitive impairment in his practice at New York Hospital Queens: 👤💬“By integrating BrainCheck into our annual wellness exams, we are not only able to get a baseline on the patient, but it also helps us identify early onset dementia or cognitive impairment. Before using BrainCheck, we used traditional pencil-and-paper tests and we found these difficult to use as they were very subjective. Using BrainCheck was a perfect solution to elevate our clinical insights and help us provide better patient care.” – Bruce Lowell, MD, New York Hospital Queens, North Shore Hospital Manhasset, MDVIP Discover how you can unlock the powerful benefits of early diagnosis with BrainCheck: https://ow.ly/Bqxg50Rqbh9 #CognitiveImpairment #EarlyDiagnosis #Alzheimers #Dementia

I always encourage my students with an interest in medicine to consider being a geriatrician.
..."That’s one trained geriatrician for roughly every 7,500 seniors." AND IT IS GETTING WORSE. A great (brief) read for my peers in health services. I've been "shouting" about this to anyone who would listen for years. We have GOT to develop new strategies to address this.
