The Liverpool Counts Quality Mark is our response to negative attitudes towards maths. Schools undertaking the LCQM aim to challenge these widely held views and promote a culture where pupils and staff readily understand the impact good numeracy skills and mathematics qualifications can have on the social, financial, health and employment aspects of their lives. This is an aim that many schools have, not just those in Liverpool... so it's great that the LCQM is an initiative that is open to schools across the country and not just those in Liverpool authority or the City Region. https://lnkd.in/eDWrQFsp #LiverpoolCounts #MathsForLife #NumeracyForLife #PositiveAboutMaths

WHAT IS TEST-OPTIONAL? Many schools have adopted a test-optional policy. However, students should still consider taking the ACT or SAT exams, either to bolster their application or to potentially qualify for scholarships and other opportunities. With govt requiring students to complete FAFSA forms, how about requiring high schools to administer the Accuplacer/Knowledge Assessment to all high school students? These tests open doors for students who pass (and many will) to attend real college courses while in high school. High schools could staff better, communities could benefit more from their local colleges (many have empty or underenrolled classes), taxpayer-purchased equipment/bldgs will be better utilized. High schools can better support students in their college and career pursuits with wrap around academic and social supports. #highereducation #equity #upwardmobility

It’s a shame that news of private schools ditching GCSEs becomes reductive tit for tat click bait. It’s really not about private versus state school. What the Times Education Commission highlighted was the inadequacy of these exams in preparing for the next steps and judging potential. Any moves to find a better way are progress, whatever you might think of the disparities wrought by the different school sectors. #timeseducationcommission #gcse #schools #colleges Tes

The overall performance of pupils who sat for Primary Leaving Examinations in 2023 hasn't been any better than the previous years. The stats state that the number of boys sitting for the exams has gradually been dropping however it is heartbreaking that over 80,000 pupils were ungraded; meaning that they cannot proceed to the next level. This may not have any effect at the moment but it will largely do so in a few years to come when these youth are grown and have to look for an indepent survival in the communities. The question is where are all these 80,000 ungraded pupils going to and what can be done to help them proceed with school and aquire some knowledge and skills?

Suspension rates of 200%. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results. Worrying that one of the academy chains mentioned is led by our next OFSTED chief. I’m really fortunate to work with some schools and trusts that believe in real inclusion even when that is challenging. If you have those kind of suspension rates then you need to think about how your practice can change. Your behaviour policies definitely aren’t working…… #education #behavioursupport
