This is me at 18 years old when I moved to Sydney ๐ฆ๐บ I always knew I wanted to be a business owner but I had no idea how to get there. I thought the only way to find out was to get out of my comfort zone and move to the other side of the world. I worked some of the worst jobs... - Door to door selling Hellofresh (commission only) - Stopping people on their way to work to sponsor guide dogs (commission only) - General labouring One of my biggest lessons whilst labouring on a building site was from all my site managers. Imagine an extremely rude Australian building site manager. Whatever you have in your head, think worse ๐คฃ I had several of these. These guys treated us like dirt. I made a promise to myself then and there. When I become a business owner I'm going to put extra work in to building a strong team and be extremely proud of the culture I build. Fast forward 6 years and I couldn't be prouder of my team. They're all A players, have each others back and always have a good time. Building a company can be lonely but when you have a great team around you it makes the world of a difference. Appreciate you Daris Benallal, Jay Brackenbury, Shreya La Cock & Craig Dewart. Do people think free booze and samosas at the office are perks? They must be delusional about what keeps employees engaged! So, a friend was raving about her new job the other day, practically frothing at the mouth about the "amazing perks." She said her office provided free beer every Friday and unlimited chai and samosas every other day! I told her that free booze and artery-clogging snacks aren't impressive; they're insulting. My ideal work environment doesn't involve a sugar crash at 3 pm or needing a nap after "Casual Fridays." I want to be paid to deliver results, not to gain weight and develop a dependence on junk food. A good company should invest in creating a collaborative space with energetic minds, not a sugar-fueled haze. Focus on building a culture of productivity, not one of empty calories. The reward for my work must be my paycheck, not an order of cheese-burst pizza from Domino's. The best perk you can offer is the chance to see my work contribute to the company's growth and my own professional development. Everything else โ the "free" food and "fun" activities โ is just fluff. What truly motivates and retains top talent? It's the opportunity to do meaningful work, to be surrounded by bright minds, and to contribute to something bigger than ourselves. The 40-hour work week has swelled to be "comically large," especially for management and other salaried positions. What if you went to a pizza shop, and the only thing they were serving was a giant, 30-inch pizza? No personal pan pizzas. No modest 12" to share with a friend. Add a 2-inch crust (I mean, commute), and job consumers are like.... "no way... I can't stomach that." I'd rather go hungry. Workers continue to prioritize mental health and well being, work-life balance, and agency. And so people are opting out of full time work. Especially those with a lot already on their plates. Companies that only offer full-time positions are going to find themselves with fewer customers... Yes, you heard that right. Job candidates are customers. And they are eyeing the size of that pizza pie (and what it costs), and passing. Job flexibility is the way of the future. As an business owner who was as well empoyee for a long time I definitely do understand what is needed for our workforce to be happy and productive. Here at Rista Barista Roastery we nurture positive work ethicโs before everything else, with the perfect work-life balance for our employees. Working hours are limited to 7h per day with 2 days off per week which is something that can possibly even increase the commitment and productivity of our employees. The customer service and professional support is something that we pride ourselves as wel in this big industry. For us each and every client is important and well taken care of. Through the efficient supply, free professional trainings, free consultations and promotions. We can do anything which is needed for our clients to help them grow their business as well. Definitely next to it out goal is to be as much as sustainable as possible. By using local suppliers for our goods, by sharing production line with another company, by using biodegradable packaging and list will be longer how business grow.
