Happy Labor Day Weekend! To celebrate, we’re highlighting one of our valued High Wire Networks team members: Lee Washington, Solutions Architect. 👍 He’s worked in IT at several jobs, starting with computer manufacturing and working at the Texas State Attorney General’s office in the IT department for child support services. Lee also worked for a national healthcare provider, where he spent 15 years managing and leading infrastructure teams. It’s clear through his endeavors that Lee cares about people. Lee aims to do the right things the right way, for the right reasons, and to yield the right results. Lee’s career is built off guts, audacity (in the right way), and a whole lot of creativity. Lee grew up in Chicago and from the beginning, his creativity shone. He built model cars, whittled little wooden boats, breakdanced, and played the drums. In his free time, Lee creates art: working with oils, acrylic, air brush, fused glass, stained glass, and furniture. He also self-identifies as a car guy. You might be thinking: how does someone so artistic end up in IT? Lee states that his artistic endeavors taught him the critical thinking and problem-solving skills that he needed to have a successful career. Why High Wire Networks? Lee says that it’s all about workplace culture—he appreciates the positive feedback he receives from leaders. A “good job” can go a long way, and that outweighs everything else. He knows his value and talents are celebrated at High Wire.

Celebrating can actually make you live longer. Studies show that individuals who practice gratitude are not only happier but also healthier and live longer lives. Not to mention, teams that incorporate celebration into their culture experience higher job satisfaction, increased motivation, and better team cohesion. “LITTLE PARTY NEVER KILLED NOBODY …” It's not just the holiday season that calls for celebration; we should appreciate and recognize our teams all year round. Here are some essential factors to consider while giving credits and celebrating: 🥂   1. ✅ Show team appreciation and recognition. 2. ✅ Embrace diversity within the team. 3. ✅ Encourage different perspectives and opinions. 4. ✅ Acknowledge and appreciate each person's contributions. 5. ✅ Support personal growth and evolution. 6. ✅ Have the courage to challenge the status quo. #peoplemakethedifference #culture

5 hamster wheels to avoid in Diversity and Inclusion work: 1. “The panel event ” hamster wheel 🎡 2. “The Diversity celebration event” hamster wheel 🥳 3. “The applying for awards” hamster wheel 🏆 4. “The ‘we’ve got a long journey ahead speech’” hamster wheel 🗣️ 5. “The social media selfie” hamster wheel 📸 🎡 Panel events are great if you have relevant expertise and take action afterwards. 🥳 Diversity Celebration events are great if the people are also celebrated when it’s time for promotions and bonuses. 🏆 Applying for awards is great when you’ve legitimately earned the accolade. 🗣️ “We’ve got a long journey ahead” speeches are great if you’re honest about where you’ve been. 📸 Social media selfies are great if you spend more time impressing your employees than strangers. You can fool the people outside of the organisation. It’s the people inside the organisation who know the truth. Fix this and it may help with your attrition problem. What am I missing? 🤔 

How often do you celebrate yourself? And how often do you celebrate your team? 🥳🥳 I recently had a conversation with a team manager and she said "we often forget to celebrate. Once a project is done, we're already busy with the next one.." As you read this, think of something you and/or your team have recently accomplished (big or small). Take a moment to be proud 🌟 And come up with a way (big or small) to celebrate yourself or your team! Celebrating achievements has various positive impacts ● It boosts morale of your team and fosters a positive work environment ● It can strengthen bonds and create a sense of community ● It encourages and motivates ● People feel acknowledged. Though not a panacee for all challenges, celebrating yourself or your team can positively impact the workplace. Today marks my 100th day at Jewson Partnership Solutions. It has been exciting so far, filled with warmth, support, and new opportunities. Here are a few highlights from this milestone: 🤝 Onboarding and Welcome: From day one, the open and supportive culture at Jewson Partnership Solutions, has helped me understand the business and made me feel like a valued part of the team.   🎨 Projects and Initiatives: Currently, I'm enjoying being involved in some new initiatives, such as the rebranding project of our sister business, George Boyd UK . Exciting times ahead as we shape the future of our brand!  🌐 Company Culture: What impresses me the most is the open and transparent communication within the wider STARK Building Materials UK. Frank discussions, peer support, and an inclusive environment, make every day a pleasure to be part of.  🤗 Colleague Support: A big shoutout to my colleagues for their unwavering support. From meeting invitations, to inclusive email conversations, and message groups, their effort is appreciated. 🔑 Observations: One key observation I'd like to share, is the importance of a simple but clear strategy that everyone owns. The energy and clarity it injects to company performance is transformative. Here's to the next 100 days!

We need to create safe, inclusive workspaces all year round, not just during Pride month. I have felt uncomfortable about coming out to colleagues in previous roles and in one case, it resulted in my departure from the company. I genuinely believe that being able to be authentic drives performance and delivers business results and the moment I was completely open about who I was, people saw me as a leader and they really signed up to what I was trying to do. Veiling parts of yourself is mentally draining. You’re not able to perform well because you’re always watching what you say, in my case thinking: Did I use the word ‘him’ when talking about my partner? I do support the idea of marking Pride month - unless you create specific moments to raise issues and have conversations, you do miss opportunities to push yourself forward. But I think we need to take that further. A CEO I once worked with had a rainbow flag sticker on the corner of his notebook. At every single meeting, he would place the notebook on the table in front of him, making his views clear to whoever was in the room. It’s these ‘small’ gestures, year-round, that can really make a difference to people. That’s what we should be thinking about. 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐬, 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐢𝐠 𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥, 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞 𝐚 𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧! Work can be demanding and tiring with tasks to fulfil and deadlines to meet, keeping up in the workplace can be exhausting, especially in a fast-paced environment. However, encouragement from our network could immensely affect our motivation to keep giving and doing our best. Celebrations don’t have to be grand. Sometimes, a casual pat on the back or a short appreciation message via social media can help boost people’s confidence in our network. In a study by Socialcast, more than 50% of employees agree that appreciation matters in the workplace. Whether it is a small or big milestone, they deserve to be celebrated.
