This is an incredible event and we are so proud to be a part of it each year. A few of our employees attended the Construction Management Summer Academy for Young Women 2024 session at Auburn University to teach a course on Scheduling, and help lead a bridge building activity. The summer program introduces high school girls to our industry and the many different career opportunities they can pursue with a building science background. Not only do the buildings we build immediately provide a positive impact in those communities but they will also continue to impact future generations. At Granger Construction, we find pride in the work that we do but we also see our career impact as something bigger than just the buildings. We want to share that prideful feeling of success, knowledge, and experience to our future generations- building up our youth to carry on that legacy. Our president Dennis J. Carignan lead by example last week. He attended Purdue University to teach students about risk management and share stories about firsthand experience within his career in construction. There’s no denying the economic conditions of the last 20+ years have had a drastic impact on our industry. Multiple recessions, a global pandemic, rapid inflation, and increased cost of education have taken their toll on our profession. As a mid-career architect, I’ve been fortunate to have navigated these challenges, but it hasn’t always been easy. I can say with confidence that it’s because of the leadership and mentorship of those around me that I’ve become the architect I am today. The constant willingness of others to provide input and fill the knowledge gaps created by these external challenges has been a critical part of my development as a professional. Shoutout to Ruth Gless and the AIA Columbus ARCHway Mentorship Program for being consistent gap-fillers in my career. What gaps have you experienced on your journey?
