SVP & Head of Commercial EMEA, Process Solutions | Managing Director Netherlands at Merck Life Science N.V.
Purpose, passion, excitement, belonging, – those are some of the words that sprung to mind when I returned from a recent leadership meeting. During this meeting, we delved into what it really means to work for a company like Merck Group with such a proud and rich history. Our company is 350+ years old and this is something each employee takes immense pride in. Part of our strategy is to build on this and set the foundations for the next 350 years. So, what is the secret to our longevity? I believe it is best captured in our purpose: “curious minds, dedicated to human progress.” Today, data plays an increasingly critical role in the decision-making process of companies, and with the explosion of AI, this will only grow further in the years to come. Supported by critical data, we will respond to market trends with agility and effectiveness. Our response to changing market trends always stood us apart and it is something we continue to prioritise in the current environment. But for me, the main reason Merck continues to survive and thrive is our people – their curiosity, knowledge, expertise, and dedication ensure we continue to impact life and health with science together and offer our customers the best possible service and products. I am proud to be with Merck and proud of all our people. #Merck #MerckLifeScience #Proud #People #Data #Diversified #Agility

As Genentech rounds the corner on its 50th anniversary, we have an occasion to celebrate this pioneer of our industry and its incredible achievements. But what's next for Genentech? It was interesting to hear newly installed CEO Ashley Magargee talk about the important role the Genentech employee will play in stewarding the organization's future at Tuesday's San Francisco Business Times Bay Area Biotech Forum. At Waterhouse, we have long championed an "inside out" approach to building brands, and the importance of enrolling your talent in your company's vision. Employees are your most critical stakeholder: they are ones who execute your strategy and put in the extra effort to solve a challenge or meet a deadline. And employees who are inspired, feel supported, and like they are critical to their company's journey will likely be the most driven participants. Perhaps this seems obvious - yet so many companies focus heavily on their external stakeholders, forgetting the folks that are within their physical or virtual office walls every day. We applaud Ashley for prioritizing Genentech's talent, who will be the ones to deliver! #employerbrand #lifescience #management

It's been just a week since we closed our fiscal year, and I wanted to share some reflections on this year's journey. The market conditions were tough, but we remained steady, and little by little more biotech investments started coming in. We stayed optimistic. This year, we grew our team significantly, and expanded our collaborations. We are fostering stronger bonds across sites and countries, truly becoming one cohesive unit. On the last day of the fiscal year, we achieved some long-awaited lab results that we've been working towards since January. What a way to wrap up the year! While I can't reveal the details just yet, I can promise that it's going to be exciting! Here's to another year of growth and innovation. Cheers to the team and all our partners and collaborators for making this possible! Innovation is not just a goal; it’s a journey. What matters most is the people you share it with. I am very fortunate to spend it with you guys! #TeamGrowth #Innovation #GlobalCollaboration #ExcitingTimesAhead

As per George Rathmann, the founder of Amgen, the purpose of bureaucracy is to compensate for incompetence and indiscipline. This problem goes away if you have the right people in the first place. Most companies build their bureaucratic process to deal with the small number of wrong people in the bus, this in turn drives away the right people, which then increases the percentage of wrong people, which increases the need for more bureaucracy to compensate for incompetence and lack of discipline which further drives away the right people and so on.. Avoid bureaucracy and hierarchy and instead build a culture of discipline. ---Good to Great by Jim Collins #discipline #goodtogreat #team
