A displacement camp in northeast Syria is overcrowded, hosting 40,000 residents, 93% of whom are women and children. They face violent and unsafe conditions. They have limited access to water, sanitation facilities, and healthcare. As a result, many children like Ruba, struggle with mental issues. In collaboration with the EU in Emergencies (ECHO), the IRC provides psychosocial and protection activities at the camp to treat trauma and distress among these families.

Today is #WorldOrphansDay. The aim of World Orphans Day is to spread awareness about the problems that war orphans and children in conflict experience. There are several humanitarian issues going on in the world right now that are affecting children. Children living in conflict areas are worst off – they are more likely to be living in extreme poverty, or not have access to an education. UNICEF are working hard to reduce the impacts of war and conflict on children. NEXT WEEK! How Getting Over Our Sense of Inadequacy & Doing Something can Power Change - LIVE event with Beverley Costa. In the face of human suffering on an almost unimaginable scale our sense of inadequacy can disempower us and make us inactive. We might debate the type of actions needed. The reasons for not acting can outweigh the reasons for taking action. We might ask why put on a sticking plaster when what is needed is an entire medical service? This can confirm our sense of inadequacy and make us feel impotent. But a sticking plaster can prevent infection so why wouldn’t you offer one in an emergency? Colleagues Across Borders was set up in 2013 when our screens were filled with pictures of people fleeing their homes in Syria. Colleagues Across Borders provides pro-bono professional support and mentoring via remote platforms for refugees who, since leaving their home countries, have trained as psychosocial workers and interpreters and who have been affected by their traumatic experiences in the Middle East and elsewhere. In this talk, Beverley Costa will share the ten-year story of Colleagues across Borders and how this teeny tiny sticking plaster has created the power to effect real changes in people’s lives when media attention and the drama has long since passed to other events. This event is LIVE only. Use the link below to register. https://buff.ly/3FFVSzu #therapistsConnect #training4therapists #counselling

Save the Children International and The Johns Hopkins University conducted a study in Colombia and Lebanon, focused on the effectiveness of CVA in reducing 📉 child protection risks such as child labour and violence. In Colombia, the overall effect of CVA on perceived safety & wellbeing of children was predominantly positive, particularly on safety within the home. In Lebanon, improvements were also observed in the corrective measures used by caregivers to discipline their children, which was used as a proxy for violence in the home. An overall improvement was observed as well during the study period, with a significant decrease in child labour. Learn more about the impact of CVA on child protection here: https://calp.net/3IvMgIT

🔂 Accountability to affected populations (AAP) in emergencies AAP is a fundamental aspect of humanitarian response that emphasizes the rights and needs of those directly impacted by crises. It involves recognizing the dignity of affected individuals and communities and ensuring that they have a voice in decisions that affect them. Some key principles and practices related to accountability to affected populations in emergencies include participation, feedback mechanisms, data protection, safeguarding and information sharing. AAP in emergencies considers, development of FCRMs/Feedback mechanisms rapidly following a simple design, below is a simple framework that I find very useful during response planning and preparedness. Haiti is in crisis. 80% of the country is controlled by criminal gangs, causing widespread violence and destruction. Hospitals, schools, and ports are closed, leaving millions in urgent need. AVSI is on the ground, providing essential help despite the challenges. Our team of nurses, doctors, and educators works tirelessly in Port-au-Prince, delivering food, water, and medicine to those affected. Flavia Maurello, AVSI's Country Director in Haiti, explains our focus on protecting vulnerable communities, especially women and children: “It is difficult to indicate a hierarchy of the many existing emergencies. Our most important program is ‘humanitarian protection, ‘which we develop in the slums of the capital. We are trying to respond to the basic needs of the population at the mercy of migratory movements produced by violence, where we mainly work with women and children.” For updates on the situation and how you can help, visit https://lnkd.in/e6FbCBCG #PeopleforDevelopment #HaitiCrisis #SupportHaiti #HumanitarianProtection #EmergencyResponse #WomenAndChildren #CrisisRelief

As a Sudanese dedicated to humanitarian and development efforts, I am passionately committed to advocating for the well-being of my compatriots amid the ongoing crisis in Sudan. The scale of displacement, predominantly affecting women and children, who make up nearly 90% of those fleeing the violence, is not just a statistic but a stark reminder of the human cost of conflict. From my position, I've been closely monitoring the situation and engaging with international partners to mobilize support for the Sudanese refugees who are now seeking safety across borders, especially in Chad. The generosity of host communities, despite their limited resources, is a testament to human solidarity. Yet, despite the efforts of organizations like UNICEF, which are providing clean water, healthcare, and educational support, the needs far exceed the available assistance. This crisis, one of the largest child displacement crises in the world, demands more than just acknowledgment—it requires a collective and urgent response from the global community. As we push for more awareness, it's crucial to remember that behind every number is a story of a child, a woman, or a family torn from their home, dreaming of safety and stability. The resilience of the Sudanese people, amidst such despair, inspires a call to action. I urge my network, stakeholders, and the international community to amplify their support, to transform our collective empathy into tangible aid that reaches those in dire need. Let's stand together for Sudan, advocating for peace, protection, and the provision of essential services to those displaced. Your awareness, engagement, and action can pave the way toward a brighter, more hopeful future for countless lives affected by this crisis. UNICEF Sudan – اليونيسف في السودان UNICEF
Hundreds of thousands of people fleeing violence in Sudan have been seeking safety and shelter across the border in Chad. Nearly 90 per cent of them are women and children. Our Spokesperson, James Elder, was recently in Adre, Chad, and saw how local residents have been generously sharing their limited resources, while UNICEF has been providing clean water, health infrastructure, and medicine. But it is far from enough. Share this video to bring more awareness to the world’s largest child displacement crisis.
