The June Port/Rail Ramp index is out, and as we analyze current trends, here are some things to think about: 📈 Volume Increases: Significant increases expected at US West Coast ports due to potential East Coast port strikes. ⚖️ Labor Dispute: Potential ILA strikes at East Coast ports could shift more shipping to the West Coast. 🔄 Market Dynamics: Increased Asia dwell times impact inbound volume but improve port operations. Carriers may boost capacity to handle rising trans-Pacific rates. Our VP of Global Supply Chain Paul Brashier recently spoke with the team at DAT Freight & Analytics on port and rail conditions and freight forecasts for the back half of the year. While port and rail conditions are operating at normal levels now, this could be a calm before the storm. "Right now, we're starting to see forecasts for an early peak," said ITS Logistics VP of Global Supply Chain Paul Brashier. "So we're going to start seeing a lot more import volume come into the US as we get into the back end of July, August, and September. And with that, you're going to start seeing a lot more congestion." Listen to the full interview here: https://hubs.li/Q02G87t80

🗽We hope everyone enjoys a safe and festive holiday with family and friends as we celebrate this great nation. Of course, it wouldn't be the 4th without fireworks, BBQ, and some fun and patriotic supply chain facts. 🎆 Here’s how supply chains keep the party going across the US: 🎇 Fireworks Distribution: The American Pyrotechnics Association estimates there are 14,000 firework displays totaling over 260 million pounds of commercial fireworks and sales of over $750 million annually by the public. From imports to safe delivery, the timely transportation of this explosive hazmat is a supply chain feat. 🌭 Food and Beverage Supply Chain: BBQs and picnics wouldn’t be the same without the efforts of farmers, manufacturers, distributors, and retailers. Cheers to the supply chain heroes who get those hot dogs, buns, chips, and drinks to our tables. 🎉 Parade Logistics: Parades and public events are a joy to experience, made possible by meticulous planning and transportation of floats, banners, and sound systems. Wishing everyone a safe, happy, and logistically smooth 4th of July! #4thofJuly #Logistics #SupplyChain #IndependenceDay #Celebration

The FMC is investigating OCEMA over reported non-compliance with a ruling that allows shippers and truckers to freely choose chassis providers for container transport. Paul Brashier, VP of Global Supply Chain, spoke with The Loadstar and emphasized the critical role of chassis in the supply chain amid concerns over congestion and cost related to container movement. “We’re interfacing in managing with our clients’ business at origin. That gives us six weeks to prepare in North America,” Brashier said, adding that this is part of a broader shift away from reacting to events to a more proactive focus.
