U.S. #elections have historically been a battleground for racial injustice, from #gerrymandering that undercuts #BIPOC representation in Congress to voter suppression tactics, and candidates who use racial dog whistles. In 2024, we have a new challenge. #AI bots designed to offer intelligent responses to political questions like "where should I vote" to "how should I vote on X topic" but have been trained on some of the darkest corners of the internet. The Surdna Foundation proudly awarded a grant to AI Democracy Projects (AIDP), a collaborative project between Proof News the and the Institute for Advanced Study with aim of addressing this challenge. Led by Alondra Nelson and Julia Angwin, and with input from a multi-disciplinary set of experts, their inaugural project was the January 2024 AIDP Elections Forum held at Columbia University. This forum focused on evaluating how leading AI models handle questions regarding voting, candidates, ballot issues, and other key election-related information. This is a new form of AI #benchmarking that is #independent and #transparent to the public. The results? If you are seeking reliable, accurate election information, do not use AI bots. AI won't be an issue in just elections within the United States this year, but around the world. As Axios notes, "It's the first time in 60 years that the U.S. and U.K. are voting for new administrations in the same year and the first time since 2004 that the U.S. and EU are." The implications of the use of AI are large, and like the rest of the digital space in the US, individual states and companies are implementing policies that could have unintended consequences. Are you using AI within your work? What areas of concern do you have about it? Let's talk about it. #politicaladvertising #ai #artificialintelligence #politics #regulation #regulatorycompliance #digitalmarketing #digitaladvertising

As we navigate the intersection of AI and democracy, it's crucial to ponder the potential of AI to shape the future of our elections. The U.S. elections showcased the power of AI in influencing voter perceptions. Now, with India's general elections on the horizon, we stand at a pivotal juncture. How can we ensure AI serves as a beacon of transparency and fairness in our electoral process? It's time we consider robust regulations that demand transparency in AI applications used in political campaigns, ensuring voters are aware when they interact with AI-generated content. But beyond regulations, there's a broader conversation to be had about the ethical use of AI in elections. Should there be limits on how AI is used to target voters? How do we balance innovation with integrity in our democratic processes? I invite you to share your thoughts on how we can harness AI's potential while safeguarding the sanctity of our electoral process. Your insights are invaluable as we chart this unexplored territory. #AIinElections #DigitalDemocracy #EthicalAI #IndianCyberSecuritySolutions

Co-Founder and CEO at Rainbird.AI. Talks about explainable AI and Decision Intelligence. Entrepreneur, Investor, Official Member Forbes Technology Council.
As Andre Spicer said in the The Guardian earlier this month, the political landscape is at a pivotal crossroads. The recent incident involving a fabricated endorsement from Hillary Clinton highlights the potential for AI to generate content that's completely detached from reality. As we approach a year filled with global elections, the risk of AI-generated misinformation influencing voter decisions is more pronounced than ever. The cost of producing misleading information has plummeted to nearly zero, thanks to generative AI, raising concerns about the integrity of future elections. It's crucial we discuss measures to mitigate these risks including promoting critical judgment among voters. How can we balance the benefits of AI in politics with the need to protect the democratic process? #DecisionIntelligence #AI #Politics #Misinformation #Elections https://lnkd.in/eXcXnkfU

As the world’s largest election begins, political parties have confirmed the use of AI tools for campaigning. Political strategists claim that AI has become a significant asset, with the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leading in its utilisation for electoral purposes. The Congress, however, is using minimally or barely at all. “The BJP has notably excelled in technology adoption since its inception, positioning itself as a frontrunner in AI integration. In contrast, other political parties have been slower in embracing this technology,” said M J Srikant, Political Consultant and Election Strategist, sharing his insights with AIM on the current status of AI integration in the 2024 elections.
