I hate when freelance writers use the word “really” or “very”. Me. Freelance writers is me… But sometimes I really need to use it to get one point across. But I know it can be very... redundant. I see some writers using “extremely” to give it a dramatic note, others using “incredibly” for emphasis, and there are always the ones using stronger adjectives like (or such as) paramount, remarkable, or unparalleled (well this last one may be AI). I’m still not convinced of those. Any tips on breaking this habit? #freelancing #freelancewriters #writing

An English nerd that I was friends with for a while told me that whenever I was thinking of using "Very" in any sentence , to do the following: Write out the sentence as is and read it to myself. Then, remove all of the instances of "Very" and read the sentence again. If the sentences sound the same to you, you just convinced yourself that the "Verys" were unnecessary. If the energy of the second sentence sounds off, the you just need a synonym replacement Example: 1: He was very sad about the passing of his only son. 2: He was sad about the passing of his only son 3: He was disconsolate about the passing of his only son. Depending on your particular English tastes, One of those will likely sounds preferable to you over the others.

To avoid using 'very', I look for synonyms. For example, if I were using 'Very beautiful' in a sentence, I go online and type "What's a word for very beautiful". This way, I have multiple options without the word 'Very'
