The #aar report ending 5/11 shows U.S. railroad weekly volume was 468,748 carloads & intermodal units, up 0.6% compared to the same week in 2023. Carloads were 209,319, down 7.0% & intermodal volume was 259,429 containers and trailers – up 7.7% compared to the same week in 2023.

The EIA reported U.S. diesel rose for all regions for the week ending July 8. The largest spike was 7.4 cents/gallon in the Midwest. The West Coast, not including California, had a slight decrease of 2.1 cents/gallon, and the national average settled at $3.865/gallon.

Per the Association of American Railroads, weekly #Railtraffic was 491,899 carloads & intermodal units, up 3.9% compared to the same week last year. Carloads for the week ending June 29 were 224,775, up 1.1% compared with 2023, and weekly intermodal volume was 267,124 containers & trailers, up 6.3%.

U.S. rail intermodal weekly volumes were up 3.6% for the week ending June 22 over the same week in 2023. Of that volume, 220,096 were carloads and 265,461 were intermodal containers and trailers.

Spot truckload capacity trends for the week ending June 23 show both dry van and reefer equipment tightening by 12.6% and 16.6% respectively. Flatbed load to truck ratios dropped by 13.14 over the past week, indicating a shift to looser capacity.
